Heads up! Powell in 20/20 tonight "explaining" Iraq, 9/11, being WRONG
This ought to be good:
Colin Powell on Iraq, Race, and Hurricane Relief

Former Secretary of State Speaks Out on Being Loyal -- and Being Wrong

Sep. 9, 2005 - In 35 years of service as a soldier, Colin Powell earned a reputation as the quintessential disciplined warrior. As secretary of state in President Bush's first term, Powell was widely seen as a disciplined, moderate -- and loyal -- voice for the administration. Now out of government service, Powell is airing openly his disappointments and frustration on everything from the invasion of Iraq to the federal response to Hurricane Katrina.

Come on, Colin. Redeem yourself.

8. No f*cking way
It was his UN speech that made the case for W's war crimes. He can hang with the rest.

23. Exactly
He knew what he was doing. If he was being blackmailed or something to go along with it he could've gone to the proper authorities and told. Powell's just like the rest of them and yes Mai Lai isn't any better either. Why else do you think George Bush picked him?

I'm sorry, but I can't stand him...he is now trying to play the good guy but he's so full of it. I'd rather he was overt like most of the BushCo people.

12. He's got the blood of thousands on his hands
Geez, that goes nicely to the tune of "He's got the whole world in His hands." Hmmm.

Nope, Colin Powell isn't going to "redeem" himself with one craven interview. His crimes and his guilt require far, far more than a bunch of fawning Baba Wawa softball questions.

And I'll tell you what I mean: When Powell excuses his UN presentation with "I didn't know," Walters will not be so uncouth as to bring up the reports that Powell originally said he wasn't going to give the speech, as it was garbage. Walters will also not be so ungenteel as to ask Powell why, when people in Iraq and Afghanistan were dying needlessly, he didn't step up. Now, over two years later, he's finally deigning to grant an interview with the Softball Queen, who won't challenge anything he says, won't ask him why he didn't speak up sooner, and surely won't call him a patent liar when he takes all his ex post facto excuses out for a test run.

Powell, inexplicably, enjoys a great deal of deference and prestige in the eyes of the media, and they never question his godlike pronouncements because they know the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer will crank up and call them racist or some other bullshit charge.

18. Yea, me. Well, not totally, but I had enough respect for him that
after his speech I considered the "threat" more credible. I was still never 100% sold, but I weighed his comments carefully.

22. Same here
I never could buy into it, but his speech made me stop and think. I had a lot of respect for him even though he worked for bush.

But it was after that, he lost me totally. He would just repeat the RW bullshit time and time again.

I'll watch tonight, but I doubt it'll change my opinion much.

I'd rather watch Maria Carey. And that's saying something. (had to leave the shelter concert at that point eeek) You who watch Powell will be outraged beyond your limits-don't say I didn't warn you.

20. Apologize to the THOUSANDS of people who have lost loved ones, Colin
and the countless thousands who have been wounded.

He's a scum, just like all the rest involved in this illegal war.

If anything, I hold him MORE responsible, because he was the one who allegedly had all the credibility.

21. Don't hold your breath
And earlier I read in another post about this that he said he didn't predict any of this would've happened in Iraq. LIE! Earlier this year a few months ago on Bernie Ward's program he had the guy on who wrote the book "Losing Iraq" and this guy was involved in post-war planning and things like that. According to this guy Powell wrote a 1,000 page document on everything that could happen and according to this guy everything that has happened was predicited. Powell is just trying to save his ass without directly blaming Bush I betcha.

27. Colin Powell should be encouraged to speak out!!!
Come on! He can redeem himself by coming forward. Don't you think it is important for him to speak out about the totally corrup Bush Die-nasty?

All this Powell bashing is counter productive in relation to forcing full accountability upon Hesident GWB.
