17. Did you even see the performance????
It was not like that at all. They were so scared that he would speak some truths in his rap that most of the time the camera shots were at a distance. What they didn't bleep showed that he totally changed the words of the song to address NO.

Pretty convenient, all this national attention he's gotten for himself this week.

26. Pretty convenient
How Kayne made the hurricane hit NO and told the federal gov't not to come rescue people. Pretty convenient how the director of FEMA has no experience whatsoever in the disaster area thus causing hundreds maybe thousands of unnecessary death. Pro-life my ass, you people are a bunch of hyprocritical, judgemental, hateful jackasses.

Kayne West doesn't need to insult Bush to get his music sold neither did the Dixie Chicks. Run along now, cry to your freeper friends that Kayne is making money and selling his music. Tell your little friends how the black boy is pissing you off. It really pissed you all off that Kayne and the Dixie Chicks (just to name a few) told the world how you neo-cons work .You didn't want your little secret out but the whole world knows how your ilk work.

Pretty conveniant, all the extra-constitutional powers he's granted himself this week.

9. Well I'm not watching now but he was on Ellen de Generes
show this afternoon, and he said some pretty powerful things. And Ellen praised him for speaking out. So that pleased me-and he did it without mentioning the "B" word. That's Bush..also known as the man who ruined America- one city at at time.

19. Well he was recieved very well by the audience
Ellen never gets political on her show. And I've been watching it for most of three seasons. She has been very emotional this week, as she was born and raised in New Orleans. Also, early in the week she had her best friend's ex husband on who made it out and he said very bluntly-"there was no one from the government that did a thing for us." And he was white.

West said that he had a duty to speak out in his mind because he has so much and so many have lost everything. He said this hurricane just brought out the truth-that all these poor people were trying to be swept under the carpet-and it was time to face the true situation of the poor in this country. Jeez, I wish I could tell you more..but I was just kinda stunned that he was given a voice on daytime tv to just say it so plainly and without the famous "other side" getting in their counterpoints.

13. No! His mouth was moving
He completely changed the lyrics to fit the occassion & how he felt. He looked upset. Wait to you get a chance to see it, it was very moving/powerful.

I'm going to rewind and try to read his lips ;)

15. Read the lyrics from where?
The first ten seconds or so they had the camera far from him so no one could tell what he was saying. Then they panned in and he was still being censored.

He had changed the lyrics to fit what happened in New Orleans.

literally, kanye

as you spoke the truth tonight, you did NOT get played at the crucial moments

watching the tape, and he was not stopping; he was being censored

27. The lyrics as the song is written
not necessarily as he sang it tonight:

We need to recruit all the soldiers
All of God's soldiers
We at war
We at war with society ,with racism, terrosism, and most of all we at war wit ourselves
(Jesus Walks)
God show me the way because the Devil's trying to break me down
(Jesus Walks with me) with me with me with me

You know what the Midwest is?
Young & Restless
Where restless might snatch yo necklace
And next these might jack yo Lexus
Somebody tell these who Kanye West is
I walk through the valley of the shadow of death is
Top floor, the view alone will leave you breathless
Uhhhh!
Try to catch it
Uhhhh!
It's kinda hard
Getting choked by the detectives yeah yeah now check the method
They be asking us questions, harassin', arrest us
Saying "We eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast."
Huh? Ya'll eat pieces of shit? What's the basis?
We ain't going nowhere but got suits and cases
A trunk full of coke, rental car from Avis
My momma used to say only Jesus can save us
Well momma, I know I act a fool
But I'll be gone till November I got packs to move, I Hope

(Jesus Walk)
God show me the way because the Devil's tryna to break me down
(Jesus Walk) with me)
The only thing that I pray is that me feet don't fail me now
(Jesus Walk)
And I don't think there is nothing I can do now ta, right my wrongs
(Jesus Walk with me)
I wanna talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long

(Jesus Walk)
God show me the way because the Devil's tryna to break me down
(Jesus Walk with me)
The only thing that I pray is that me feet don't fail me now
(Jesus Walk)
And I don't think there is nothing I can do now to right my wrongs
(Jesus Walk)
I want to talk to God but I'm afraid because we ain't spoke in so long.

To the hustlas, killas, murderas, drug dealas even tha strippers jesus walks with them
To the victims of Welfare for we living in hell here, hell yeah, jesus walks with them
Now hear ye hear ye want to see Thee more clearly
I know He hear me when my feet get weary
Cuz we're the almost nearly extinct
We rappers is role models, we rap we don't think
I ain't here to argue about his facial features
Or here to convert atheists into believers
I'm just trying to say the way school need teachers
The way Kathy Lee needed Regis, that's the way I need Jesus
So here go my single dawg radio needs this
They say you can rap-about-anything except for Jesus
That means guns, sex, lies, video tapes
But if I talk about God my record won't get played, Huh?
Well if this take away from my spins
Which will probably take away from my ends
and i hope it take away from my sins
and bring the day that I dream about
Next time I'm in the club everybody screamin out

(Jesus Walks)
God show me the way because the devil's tryna break me down
(Jesus Walks)
The only thing that I pray is that my feet don't fail me now

He payed homage to the people of New Orleans and we don't know what else he said because of the heavy censoring, even with the camera.:(

34. You have no need to aplogize, Dan
The poster who keeps posting the lyrics to the studio version is unintentionally (I think) being misleading.

I wasn't sure if you heard the concert and I wanted you to have a more accurate account of what West sang.

31. This is a copy of my post from "concert thread 2"

First, they censored 1/3 of his song.

Here is one of the changes that he made that they did not censor:

" Well Momma, I know I act a fool, but a flood came now we've got to move"

~and~

"I can only imagine (pause) I can only imagine if I couldn't talk to my mother, if I didn't know where my mother was, if I didn't know where my family was"

"If I had to, if I had to lose my home, if I had to stay in the Superdome, if I lost where I stayed..."

22. Damn! what is up with the mischaractorizations of his perforance?
I'm not speaking about you. But I saw every thing from he was singing about cocaine to he was being edited for saying "fuck". Bullshit!

Where did all of that come from?????????? :wtf:

The producers where so scared of him they spent half of the camera shots at a distance. From what they didn't censor it was clear that he changed the words to speak about NO.

25. absolutely correct....I'm watching the tape, and there's plenty
about NO, the flood, the Superdome, the conditions, losing one's family

dunno what the original song was about (Walk W/Jesus the title?), but it was clearly redone for tonight

and it was BUTCHERED, from the very beginning

the first three/four seconds of the song were bleeped out

and he was NOT stopping at the points where he was being bleeped
