Does this suck or am I hypersensitive?
Today at work, a supervisor at our afternoon meeting advised everyone that if we didn't do things exactly how they wanted, there were many NO evacuees who wanted a gig. Of course, this was right after a fund drive for the poor people was announced (passive voice very intentional, btw) in which the big boss (not the threatener) had generously agreed to match contributions.

It just seems a little shitty to me. Or, of course, actually I view this person as an evil crone befouling an otherwise beautiful world (but I digress.)

Or am I hypersensitive? I've never actually been accused of that but who the fuck knows these days.

1. If you think something sucks, it probably does.
Go with your feelings, young Jedi.

2. lack of managerial skills
the only way the supervisor knows to motivate people is by threats evidently.

He/she won't last.

7. Yeah, but idiots like that
usually only get the boot, if they get it at all, once their department has been totally destroyed by their "leadership", and quite often it's the people they terrorized that get the blame, and not the "leader." Sucks, but that's the way most employers are. Wage slavery sucks, doesn't it?

10. Much depends on opportunity. I've been
relatively fortunate.

But even I have played the role of the fool we are attacking. Human weakness that comes from being unsure.

4. Ok, here's my take
Whenever there are unemployed for whatever reason, the bosses always tell you to work harder because "you're lucky to have this job."

My retort would have been "Yes, and some of those NO evacuees would love a supervisor's gig." He should know he isn't immune either.

5. Classic Bourgeois approach...
Marx wrote extensively about the desire of the bourgeoisie to maintain a large reserve labor force, just so they could control the proletariat with such threats.

9. Typical asshole boss approach
Years ago, when I was doing temp work in a horrible factory that violated safety regulations right and left and gave only a ten-minute coffee break and a twenty-minute lunch during an 8.5 hour workday, the owner posted a help wanted ad from another factory which was paying minimum wage.

Next to the ad was a note, "This is what we're competing with. Now kwitcher bitchin'!"
