Does anyone know about the religion Bush follows? I believe I heard
:wtf:
he was a revelationist. Isn't that a little scary that someone who believes in apocalyptic occurences, is also capable of enabling them?

1. You probably mean evangelical. I don't know what he claims but
most evangelicals are big apocalyptic believers and they honestly, truly believe this is what's called the "end of days." That's why war, murder, environmental catastrophe, economics, etc., etc., doesn't matter. W is going to lead the way.

This is a HUGE group, not just some fringe.

15. that's his denomination
but he doesn't attend church, belong to a local congregation, or ask for his bishop's advice on any matter. The only time I've ever seen him in a churchsteps photo op was once when his daddy was in town and apparently forced him to go to his Episcopal church.

I think you could fairly conclude that Bush is his own theologian.

16. so he claims.
He's not REALLY a Methodist. He's certainly not a "REAL" Christian.

He's not the REAL President. He's not really very good at anything.

Actually, I don't think he's really human........

the whole bush clan is good at that. It's their claim to fortune. Jr's 'born again' status was/is a Rove PR stunt to get the Southern Fundies' votes. Nothing more and nothing less. Like everything else about him , Jr's 'religion' is fake.

41. Yep.
I don't have the references anymore, but during the first campaign, I compiled information about how he had taken the "Promise Keepers" *playbook* and used that as a boilerplate to get the fundie vote.

There are also stories about his so-called "conversion" - he never actually admits to ONE - which most born-agains have the BIG MOMENT, doncha know. He doesn't. There was the walk on the beach with Billy and some nutradiojob in TX and some other something that did the trick. (The story kept changing according to his "audience" and it caught up with, I suspect...)

Then there are the stories of friends who went to Bible Study with him and said he acted like a buffoon cracking jokes the whole time.

And the stories of his friends that he really didn't change his behaviour at all after he supposedly "came to Christ"........

He's a charlatan in every sense of the word. Though I do worry that he's started to believe his own bs - which could be even worse. A meglomaniacial psychotic is bad enough but a pseudo RELIGIOUS meglomaniacial psychotic is even worse! (Just look at Adolph..)

17. But ... remember .. I have seen him keeping company with ..
types such as Dobson and Richard Land (of the Southern Baptist Convention). He definitely is under the spell of what I would term religious extremists. I know of what I speak; I read the religious right websites regularly. I always want to know how the basic Rethuglican talking points are given an apocalyptic/fundamentalist/revivalist kind of flavor; then, my fundie relatives read them.

From the email I get, my fundie relatives have imbibed the entire Kool-Aid pitcher.

If you want to have some fun, and make your brain explode, I suggest:

http://www.agapepress.org/ ;

http://www.bpnews.net/ ;

http://www.albertmohler.com/ .

I hate the constant references to 'Christians,' as if their definition is the ONLY one. The arrogance is astounding.

21. You're talking about the ones who admit they worship
something called Satan. Not the real deal IMHO. The real Satanists have been lured into the cult by minions who call themselves anything but Satanists. They would be shocked if you told them the Lord they worshipped was the devil.

13. Me too.
He just doesn't know it because Satan isn't that honest to his followers. They don't call him the Prince of Lies for nothing. Yet, you do know his followers because of the lies. The minute you cross that line into doing something you aren't that comfortable with but you do it because everyone tells you it's what the Lord wants. Be careful about who the Lord is. I always felt my own instinct or conscience was my best guide. I didn't need any priest or other authority pushing me.

You have to hold hands with Arabians as part of the service, and employ people who are familiar with Arabian horses as your obedient servants.

Edit, spelling, such a putz!

28. The guy who coined
"Axis of Evil" for the chimp is pretty heavily involved with them, I believe... given their charter statement about christianity being attacked by secularism, it makes you wonder about the "crusade" aspect of going into Iraq. Many of the civilian deaths over there have been missionaries who were trying to convert the Muslims in exchange for aide.

32. Bush believes he is fated for great destiny; Christians got to him.
Frontline did an excellent show on his so-called "faith". A couple of evangelist preachers got to him in the 80's I think it was and convinced him that he was destined for great things if he could "get right with the lord". I'm pretty sure they had some political connections that may not have been apparent at the time. I don't believe in 99 percent of conspiracy theories because they depend on too many people and too many moving parts, but here is a simple one that should be investigated and publicized because it basically involves only two people as operatives. The powers that be, "they" got to him.

The Chalcedon site hits you in the eye as an elitist site. Bush is fundamentally an elitist, from birth.

Bush vaguely believes in Revelations and apocalypse and end time and evangelism and born-again-ness. Vaguely because he is not capable of deep thought or introspection. Basically, he finds religion a tool and a convenience, more than he finds it a comfort.

I am completely certain that being "born again" does not entitled anyone to twice as many rights.

30. "The Faith of George W. Bush" is a book that I haven't read...
..and I probably won't, unless I need to induce vomiting and don't have any syrup of ipecac handy.

For God's sake, there's also "God and George W. Bush : A Spiritual Life". Both of these books you can pre-read on Amazon. I tried to read one of them but barfed at "George W. Bush is a rugged guy, a kind of cowboy -"

Being really frank with you - the Bible says "By their fruits you shall know them". I don't see a lot of apples in his bushel.

This is what I know:

1) He attended a Presbyterian church growing up and is a member of a United Methodist Church but doesn't regularly (I mean doesn't hardly ever) attend. Furthermore, the UM church has pretty clear views on War & Bush's war is just way too preemptive for them. And I don't think the UM's interpretation of environmentalism is quite Bushian either.
2) He apparently had a conversion experience with Billy Graham (i.e. is now "Born Again" - which is why the fundies forgive him the coke snorting and etc...)
3) He prays with families of victims/iraq soldiers...
4) He told a bunch of Amish people that God speaks through him, and he justifies attacks by saying God told him to do it.

May God have mercy on his soul and on this nation.

33. Bush & Cheney are Methodists. The Methodists want them to repent
Methodist clergy were passing around a petition asking Bush and Cheney to repent or leave the church.

http://atheism.about.com/b/a/120410.htm
http://chuckcurrie.blogs.com/chuck_currie/2004/10/united_methodis.html

We, the undersigned, do hold that George W. Bush, a member of Park Hill United Methodist Church (UMC) in Dallas, Texas, and Dick Cheney (local membership unknown) are undeniably guilty of at least four chargeable offenses for lay members as listed in 2702.3 of the 2000 Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church. These offenses are: crime, immorality, disobedience to the Order and Discipline of The UMC, and dissemination of doctrine contrary to the established standards of doctrine of The UMC. For these offenses, we the undersigned call for an immediate and public act of repentance by the respondents. If the respondents do not reply with sincere and public repentance for their crimes, we demand that their membership in the United Methodist Church be revoked until such time that they sincerely and publicly repent.

he spouts the "special words" that have meaning among evangelicals. He seems to go to church more often than that pillar of Christianity, Ronnie Reagan ever did. What is interesting is that he wraps his 'faith' around him just as he does his 'texas' persona. Do not forget that the * family is old line, aristocratice, episcopalean, eastern, elitist. It shows the gullibility of the masses that they buy the nascar lovin', brush cuttin', yale, silver spoon (with a little coke maybe??) image that he was robed with by family handlers.
