I like the Gore/Dean ticket idea. Both have tons of hands on government experience. Gore is a big picture guy who seems to have seen reality.
Deans a streetfighter and would also have a humanizing effect on Gore that might get him off of his Woodman image.

I'm going to take a close look at Clark if he runs and I'd also love to see Gary Hart make a comeback.

38. I've followed Al Gore's career since his father's last term in the senate

He was one of the most impressive young men of the 1970's (right next to Arkansas's attorney general, Bill Clinton). I thought Gore did a really good job of campaigning in every election until the one in 2000 when he won the nomination. I have to say, I was very disappointed by his performance.

Part of it is media bias. Gore whipped Dubyas ass in all three debates in 2000 but thats not how it was reported. When Bush didn't pick his nose and eat the boogers on camera, the MSM declared him a serious candidate. They've been propping him up ever since.

I don't think Al Gore will run in 2008. I think he feels burned by the experience of 2000 and is unwilling to open himself up to the pain again. If I'm wrong, and he runs I'll consider him, certainly, but I really like Wes Clark and also think John Edwards is a better than average candidate. I would have to see if Gore has improved his campaign performance before committing to supporting him.

I think Dean would make a kick-ass vp nominee but I can name ten other Dems that would make just as good a vp nominee with more potential to bring in electoral votes. If either Gore, Edwards or Clark was the nominee, I could see

"Shaking things up" is the last thing we want to do. embracing swing voters is good. Not becoming the stereotypical "smarter than thou" liberal is good...

Clarke is great, because (aside from the important stuff like having a platform and being able to function) he has a personal religious viewpoint which doesn't conflict with the swing-voters (I believe we have to talk to the evangelical christians and even some of the fundies). Plus, being a soldier....er..patriot doesn't hurt either.

Personally, I *LOVE* Edwards, he has a JFK-like persona. I remember the debates, I was much more captivated by Edwards/Dick.

The media would focus strongly on a female vp (Landrieu/Clinton/Boxer/Sibelius/Stabenow) but none of them are really outside the mainstream. Richardson has a tremendous background with Hispanic heritage to boot. Warner is a tremendous southern Democrat with appeal to Republicans. Russ Feingold could relink Democrats with populists and energize the party. Evan Bayh would make an excellent back-up vp candidate and Barack Obama....well, speaking only for myself, this Mississippi Democrat would be proud to vote for him.

BTW, its Clark (not Clarke) and he has (and has had for the last two years) a solid platform and functions quite well.

Regarding all the female veeps: I remember Mondale/Ferraro. I remember a lot of swing voters were very vocal about not voting for Mondale because if anything happened, we'd have a woman president. 20 years later, I don't know if minds have changed a whole lot.

Yes, there will be a lot of men and women, like me and you, who will rally behind her, but there will be a lot of conservative men and women who go to churches where women are not allowed to lead (some are not even allowed to speak) who will vote against her. Then there are the Women-Haters, and the true conservatives. That's one of the reasons Hillary Clinton is a real liability - she carries with her the stigma of the overbearing woman who had her hands in her husband's business.
