Think they might hide the true number of dead in NO?
just to try to lighten the hit of how bad this truely is? first not wanting people to take pictures of the dead and having to get a restraining order against the goverment and nowall the reports are saying "there arent nearly as many deaths as thought"
what do you think?

37. They're tuning up to minimize the death toll. Heard at least 4X
that body count will be lower than anticipated. They've covered what percentage of NOLA? How many attics have they gotten into? They say these things without asking or answering any of these questions. And, how many bodies have they recovered so far? The number currently recovered, coupled with the amount of land they still have to cover, would provide an answer to that question. Share the numbers BUSHCO.

39. And they've moved evacuees all over the country so
the chances of adequate ID procedures of the deceased are slim to nothing. Hence- the giant unmarked grave. Bury the truth Bush style.

2. Let ALL the media in and PROVE IT...
Who gave this "new and improved" estimate? What area, exactly, did they canvass? Is there any corroborating evidence to back these statements up?

PROVE IT! I'm willing to listen...

6. No. Absolutely not. The more dead, the better for Bush
Trust me, I know it doesn't make sense. I don't understand how it works either.

But it seems like as more Americans are killed through Bush's incompetence or apathy, the more beloved he becomes.

I don't think so. While these people SEEM to number in the millions, most don't have the ready freddy to do anything profitable about it. Most of his supporters are just "reflexive Republicans" who pull the lever without much thought or research. THEY will be swayed by the huge loss of life.

20. the obnoxious neocons on my email list are not swayed yet
I still have a son in law and a nephew or three who are still obnoxiously, browbeatingly, aggressively apologizingly and excusing Shrub's every failure. The loyalty is canine and will never end. Hitler was very popular too, you know, with those who thought their association with him would bring them wealth and power. Same here.

you betcha they will
numbers will be spun...

numbers will be cooked -- most likely by dividing it into "groups"

"X" dead from Hurricane
"X" dead from "other" non-hurricane related (i.e. pre-existing conditions, heart attacks, accidents...)

9. I heard last night that CNN is suing the feds to let them
report on the number of dead. Seems the fed spin machine is in full throttle. The federal government will make every effort to prevent the true extent of the damage and deaths from coming out. That's what they do best, make it look good even though it is nothing but lies. It seems to appease the masses and keeps the repukes from being forced to actually do something.

I have said all along that they will, and their recent actions only indicate that that is what they intend to do. MSM is already chanting that it looks like the death toll will be much smaller than what was expected.

Wonder where that is coming from... who told them that, and why are they making such an eager effort to disseminate that kind of "information" before the facts are even in. Of course, this adminstration will do anything and everything to cover its filthy ass! :grr:

12. a report from near the morgue set up in a near by town
CNN interviewed a woman on her porch living next to the warehouse where FEMA has set up a make shift morgue. She Said Big trucks with refrigerated bodies roll by her house by the dozens. DOZENS! She was horrified to think of how many bodies that meant.

The next thing I read is the body count will be much lower than anticipated!

YES! THey will and are hiding the body count numbers just like the dead civilians in Iraq.

These rat bastards are the worst.

Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 07:47 AM by leftchick
It was a very brief segment on CNN. The woman was a cute, older black lady and she was upset about the noise of the trucks, the morgue so close to her home and the thought of so many dead.

Perhaps someone could interview her again before she is silenced.

to say that the body count will be considerably lower. And remember a lot of bodies may never be recovered due to other circumstances. So you are right about the database.

Its a pretty obvious attempt to save their political skins.

Added. Someone should keep a scorecard on the "missing" list from the storm. I don't think anyone will keep one, but if an accurate list is kept, I suspect that there will be many, many bodies on it.

25. Worse than Chernobyl
Thank God if it's true and there are fewer! At the same time # of dead does nothing to reduce degree of suffering amongst the living.

My gut tells me that Bush Co was spinning this too. They always work on decreasing expectations by leaking out the worst case scenario. Rumors of 50,000 body bags will make 5,000 documented deaths seem miniscule.

If the # is above 4,000, we need to push the point that ultimately this disaster was worse than 9/11 and worse than Chernobyl(now said to be 4,000 deaths directly due to Chernobyl)! "Worse than Chernobyl" has a sting to it and is a great reply to "Katrina, not as bad as we thought..."

One day they need 25,000 body bags and the next day they say the death toll is much lower. How do they know this when over half of the city is still under water and they only looked in a small area of the city? They have not searched the homes in the areas which had the greatest levels of poverty. In Mississippi most areas are leveled with piles of debris everywhere. They lie like a rug and the media is helping them.

I heard on the radio yesterday that officials are claiming they've already been through every house in NO (yeah right... EVERY LAST HOUSE?!?) and there are only a couple hundred bodies. Bullshit. Even IF there really are under 10,000 bodies what becomes an "acceptable" number? 8,000? 5,000? What?
