should the poor in america be ashamed of themselves?
you'd think so by listening to most republicans, whom i suppose have never been poor, and think that they probably never will be.

anyone who'd suggest that the poor of new orleans deserved what they got for not preparing for the future like 'everyone else', has obviously never been poor, or they wouldn't say such an unchristian thing.

the christ that they profess to worship admonished us to HELP THE POOR, the afflicted, the oppressed, and the downtrodden.

but then, when did they ever try to follow christ other than by using his name in vain?

1. They have hijacked the name of Jesus
to do evil things to His people. I just wish Christians would see this. I have been screaming this to others of faith for five years. They are not Christians!! Jesus would condemn their behavior. I used to think the people I see at my church were just naive. Are they stupid? Or are they wealthy white racists who look down on the poor. Needless to say, I have been communing with my savior at home much more often since Satan became president.

2. Blame the victim.
The whole "personal responsibility" angle of the Republican agenda comes in very handy for them when they don't want to care about the poor, but don't want to feel guilty about it, either. So, according to them, everybody has a "choice" to be rich or poor, healthy or sick, homeowners or homeless. When you blame the victim, you have no responsibility to help, since they brought it on themselves.

"That is what happens when people choose not to work". I was appalled this woman pulls in about 500K a year & is clueless. all she cares about are taxes which she tells me are "too high".

Of course her child attended an elite private school & got a national merit scholarship. Tells you something about education and what you can get for $20K a year.

These folks have absolutely no conception what it is like to live in poverty. And they really believe poverty is a personal failing.

3. It's funny:
I don't know any poor people who could not handle being rich. But few if any rich people could handle being poor. That's why when the stock market burps, the rich start jumping off bridges.

Your mention of Jesus is right on. He stated very clearly that rich folks have trouble reaching the kingdom of heaven; it is as hard for a camel to get through the eye of a needle as for the rich to obtain bliss. More, he taught that the poor are blessed in spirit, which literally means they obtain bliss.

4. Well, there's thems dats poor in da wallet and thems dats poor in da soul.
That first group, they got nothin to be ashamed of. They jis picked the wrong parents and got knocked down hard by fate.

That second group though, phew, they got a lot to account for. If your soul is bankrupt, there's nobody to blame but yerself. Shame on those who suck the life outta others to fill the empty and bottomless hole in their souls. Shame on those who can't wake up and know the riches of bein blessed with one more day and a blue sky to work under.

7. Amen Hmom!
Your post made me feel a little better. I agree, it is much better to be wealthy in one's soul (& it's certainly the only wealth I will ever know). Thanx!

11. Should is the operative word here- and have you ever been
on food stamps? Medicaid? Welfare? TANF?

i have,- under both the Clinton and briefly during this administrations
first reign-

It SUCKS.

Being poor isn't a CHOICE- neither is being rich. It was merely an accident of fate that bush was born into wealth, and a similar accident that Ted Kennedy was born into wealth- what they CHOOSE to do with their lives doesn't spring from political parties- but from the ideals, and experiences that their lives bring to them.

bush lost a sister at seven and got bitter- and his mother nurtured that bitterness. Ted lost several brothers, at several ages and got 'better' and the values instilled in him through his family, while not flawless ones, were ones which helped to remind him what suffering feels like, and that while it can NEVER be avoided entirely- it teaches us lessons of compassion, generosity, and the inter-connectedness of humanity- IF we open ourselves to it, and are encouraged by others to do so.

Believe me- there are MANY non-vocal republicans. And there are many rich democrats. Character, and compassion are products of nurturing not wealth or political party.

I've read alot of posts here that have denigrated 'welfare' folks- by those who declare themselves to be democrats- and i've received unexpected support from some quiet republicans, who gave not with strings, or pointing out how 'good' they were- but from their hearts.

I'd love for 'our party' to not 'defend' itself by condemning the other party- but by reminding the world we are all equal according to our nations founders- and it shouldn't stop there. And that TRUTH should be 'self-evident' and NOT a 'partisan' issue- empathizing the ISSUE and how to ensure its something we continue to champion- RATHER than pointing fingers and saying 'they' don't care.-

People would rather hear solutions, than excuses.

Just my own stupid, low-class, no account opinion.
The Christ i worship also reminds me that 'the poor will always be with us' that doesn't mean we/they have to be taught or told it is anyones 'fault'- or something to feel ashamed of.

Many poor people have done very great things-

12. The Wealthy Should Be Ashamed of Themselves!
Here are all of these great and wonderful (at least in their minds they are so) born again Christians who get all puffed up about themselves and who look down on the poor and who believe that God lovingly approves of their condescension. I don't know what Gospel these ANTICHRISTS are reading but it sure as hell ain't the Bible. If they would read the Bible they would know that true Christians are exhorted to help the poor at all times:

He who has compassion for and gives to the poor lends unto God; and that which he gives the Lord shall repay. Proverbs 19:17

Give alms unto the poor from your wealth ... sell what you have and give alms. Luke 11:41, 12:33

If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell what you have and give to the poor ... I shall repay you a hundredfold Matthew 19:21, 29

... exhort the Brethren to give of their bounty ... liberal distribution unto all men ... II Corinthians 9:5, 13

If they fail to do so, then they are held to be wicked for "it will be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into Heaven", Matthew 19:24.

These wealthy Republican evildoers may glory in the wealth given to them by ANTICHRIST Bush but eventually they will have Hell to pay for their evils.

14. The really sad thing about it is that the "poor" will be kinder to Bush
than the rest of us. A lot of poor are poor because they are honest, decent people who would never take advantage of others, work hard and take care of their families. When you get the stats on the welfare cheats, and the frauds most of them won't be poor people. they will be people who know how to take advangate of the system and earn well abouve the poverty level.
