Navratilova: "Maybe one day this country will be ready for the truth"
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 11:41 AM by Wheezy
Found the link. http://cbs.sportsline.com/cbssports/story/8820403

Carillo: When you say you needed your freedom, how hamstrung were you as a player? Was it because you had gotten so good and so American-ized that they would hold you back?
Navratilova: I was never a conformist, as you know, surprise, surprise!

Carillo: A shocking revelation.
Navratilova: I was not a party member, whether it was the Democratic Party, the Republican Party or the Communist party. I am going to still speak my mind and that's been getting me into trouble in this country now which is ironic because I left one repressive regime then I get here and I speak my mind about something that I don't like that the president is doing or the Republicans are doing and next thing I know people are trying to send me back to Czechoslovakia. And I'm like, isn't that why we are going to Iraq so people can speak their mind.

Carillo: You are actually thinking about being involved with American politics?
Navratilova: I might be involved one day. Maybe one day this county will be ready for the truth. They aren't ready for it yet. If I can make a difference somewhere in some post then yes, I would absolutely go for it.

Carillo: And you will serve and volley
Navratilova: I will serve and volley and go to the net, you know that.

1. I saw that.
It was interesting. I have always liked her, she is indeed a non-conformist.

She got it in and they aired it, surprised me a little bit.

8. I would certainly
look at her seriously because she sounds very much like someone I could support. I guess we will see if she decides to run. I have no problem with movie stars or atheletes running as long as they win or lose based on their policies. She sounds good at this early point anyway.

3. Weren't there rumors about her running for Congress....
in Colorado or something?

I've liked the way she went about her politics/nationality ever since she refused to play in the Olympics until she was a U.S. citizen.

7. She's a very friendly person.
She plays hockey in Colorado now. I used to coach a women's ice hockey team that played her Aspen Mother Puckers in the state tournament.

She brought her dog to the rink, hung out signed autographs for the women who just skated against her, and was just very nice.

I'm not much for "celebrity" but it was kind of neat being in the same room as her.

We really need someone with the strength & fire to go to the net. :patriot:

edited to add: I've always loved to watch her play and admired her in so many ways. My respect and admiration for her has just grown quite a bit. :loveya:
