8. From a historically correct perspective,
placing all considerations of "political correctness" aside, this country is a THIRD WORLD country (Africa, pre-Columbian North and South AMerica, belong to the "First World", not the third).
How the hell we white, self-rightous wonderbread heads every got it in our brains to declare 'them" the third world and elevate us to the first , hmmmm. dunno.

But we are and always have been a third world country: it's just that now the proof is in the Puddles.

10. we are a third world country in the sense that
the difference between economic wealth and lack thereof does not amount to merely a difference in degree of comfort, it means literally the difference between living and dying. QED NOLA.

13. Depends on where you are
Some wards of the District of Columbia -- and I daresay other poor pockets within the country -- have infant mortality rates equal to nations like Thailand, Somalia, and Afghanistan.

11. The day that I saw beggers in the supermarket parking lot
and had to step over people sleeping on the sidewalk, only a half a block from where I lived, in 1979, we had become a third world country. And the injustice became institutionalized homelessness. That was twenty-five years ago and things are worse, not better, today. I also realized back then that my husband and I were only a couple of paychecks away from being there ourselves if one of us got a debilitating, chronic illness that would eat up all our savings and assets.
