Thanks to all DUers who have supported Bushville, DC - www.bushville.org
www.bushville.org

We've planted the seed for Bushville, DC - an illegal camp for Katrina victims in DC.

Thanks.

1. happy to support you
but my hubby's a highly respected ad and PR/Promotions man with deep insights into what works and what doesn't in terms of publicity:

I think you're making a terrible mistake by calling this "Bushville"

Camp Katrina

gives you a seamless fit wih Camp Casey

and furthermore makes the parallell to "concentration camp" ring through loud and true.

Bushville is something I'd be likelyto support by spreading the word; I'd be more likely to make afinancial contribution to "camp katrina"

2. The term Bu$hville is in reference to Hooversville from the Depression
Things are starting to look that bad and that is the whole premise of the camp and the reason for the name.

3. I am aware of the reference in Bushville
I am also aware of the way "advertising" and "publicity" works, and it's very much related to the historical amnesia and miniscule attention span this country has.

Camp Katrina is, from this perspective, has a better strategic shot at getting traction.

Bushville is a brilliant idea. But that was then and this is now, and in light of all things considered, I bet any advertising or PR professional would tell you

Camp Katrina is what's sexier, it's what will "sell", it's what's got traction.

4. I did a poll on DU - Bushville or Camp Katrina
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=2070752

A lot of people wanted a clear distinction between Katrina and Iraq in the name. Not all survivors of Katrina are fans of Camp Casey. The term Bushville came up spontaneously in threads than Camp Katrina.

I own both the URL's www.bushville.org and www.campkatrina.org. I would be happy to donate campkatrina.org to you.

"Bushville" is just a placeholder name. The survivors who camp in DC will name it.

5. as much as I love DU
I wouldn't take its poll results as the word of God -- I think there are way too many "take the high road" folk out there more concerned with things like "clear distinction between Katrina and Iraq".....

From a publicity and promotions perspective, Camp Katrina is definitely the bigger catch.

Hopefully the survivors will make the right choice.

I can't imagine any of them wanting to hear or be affiliated with the name "bush" in any way, but....decisions and opinions of people in this country never cease to amaze me.

Did you also poll it on KOS?

6. Great. We're still working on getting the civil disobedience group
off the ground. We have a few star sigs but need some more to make this happen.
