Faux News is SO stupid... calls suicide bomber: "homicide bomber"

Yes, technically these bombers are 'homicide bombers' but so is Timothy McVeigh or any other person who detonates a bomb that kills someone. Can't they get it through their thick ignorant skulls that the reason why they are called 'suicide bombers' is not to glorify the bomber but to DISTINGUISH between those who bomb things and kill people without themselves dying in the act. What is up with these people? IDIOCY!

1. Does anyone have a defense for the term 'homicide bomber?'
it is like these ignorant conservatives have installed their own version of politically correct speech.

14. You bet they have their own version of PC speech
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 08:07 PM by MattBaggins
and we need to call them on it. Just as they always throw out "PC" as a way to negate any ideas they dislike, we need to start calling theirs "Neo-PC" speech. Throw their labels right back at them.

16. Get clear on the details, please.
The bombed location was jointly owned by Arab and Israeli families for 40, that's 40 years acording to what I heard on BBC this evening.

28. Bet they didn't mention the reason this woman took such drastic action
She left a message that her act was in retaliation for the Israelis killing members of her family in Jenin including her brother and cousin. The FOX news and others are spinning it for Israel claiming that she was SENT by Islamic Jihad since they cannot claim that she was a "terrorist" or member of Hamas or IJ. Saying that she was "sent" gives Israel cover to bomb more Palistinians in the name of retaliating against the "terrorists." It's all so sick!

7. Faux Made Decission A While Ago to Use Homicide
Homicide bomber vs. suicide bomber: ''Our feeling was, if you set off a bomb and kill yourself, you're a suicide bomber,'' says Fox News producer Dennis Murray. ''But if you kill others, you're a murderer. You committed a homicidal act, and 'homicide bomber' is a very good description of what you are.''

8. yes, so Timothy McVeigh is also a homicide bomber
to be technical, these are suicide/homicide bombings, however since pure suicide bombings almost never happen, calling them suicide bombings to distinguish from ones like McVeigh makes sense.

29. OK OK suicidal homicide bombers
...or maybe homocidal suicide bombers. A person must murder others AND murder ones'self to qualify.

25. This is some stupid ass non logic...
Edited on Sat Oct-04-03 10:17 PM by teknomanzer
''But if you kill others, you're a murderer. You committed a homicidal act, and 'homicide bomber' is a very good description of what you are.''

Reason says that nearly all bombers intend kill someone, and that intent is defined as murder, and murder is homicide. Therefore nearly all bombers are homicide bombers. That would include Tim Mcveigh onto some fundamentalist fanatic who also takes his own life as well as his intended victims. However the Bush Propaganda Slogan Machine uses this term to DISTINGUISH suicide bombers from other kinds of bombers. That is clearly not logical use of language.

But I think the deeper question to this matter is why they have to use a meaningless and near redundant term in the first place. The term suicide bomber very much defines the act beyond getting into more simplistic terms of definition. I think it is quite obvious that they seek to negate the term suicide. The question to ask is why is this necessary?

I postulate that it is necessary to negate the word suicide because the very act of suicide itself is shocking to us, and is perhaps more shocking than a murderous act alone. What can we say about some one who kills someone else? We can say "That scumbag, lowlife..." and so on. But what can we say about someone who commits suicide? "What the f*** was wrong with that person..." and such.

What I am trying to say in short is an act self annihilation is one of shear desperation and or dejection. The term suicide bomber makes us wonder what problem, belief, cause, or mental problem would bring a person to kill others and ones self. If the public where to ask such a question who knows where that answer could lead? Would we find out whether or not some murderers hate America because of its (rapidly eroding) Freedoms? Or would we discover that the rampant anti-American and anti-western sentiment of the Middle East is the direct result of European colonialism, and Western Neo-colonialism? Or would they also discover that our some of our enemies in the Middle East (from Saddam to the Saudis) have had, and continue to have, the support of members of the Bush administration?

Except apparently Fox News. No surprise there. Even the Bushies don't do it any more. They know better.

It is the first time I can ever recall a "news organization" not calling something by its most used name. They are choosing what they want to call it and calling it that. But then, they aren't really a news organization.

She killed dozens of innocent Israelis and that is just plain sick.

The sad fact is that the bomber died and can't be made to suffer for their crime of genocide. Screw all these Jew killing SOBs.

gen·o·cide
n.
The systematic and planned extermination of an entire national, racial, political, or ethnic group.

You let me know when she gets around to all the other jews, ok?

This was more than likely retaliation. Of course I don't expect this fact to escape your bias. Israel probably killed part (or all) of her family. I'm sure she was already made to suffer for her crime of "genocide". (still laughing on that one... though actually it is somewhat upsetting to see a person spit on those who died in an actual genocide by lessening the crime in such a way as you have done) Regardless she is guilty of murder and is dead. The likey punishment would be death.

31. Israel doesn't have the death penalty
- so being guilty of murder in an Israel court would've gotten her life in prison, most likely. It doesn't matter anyway. You can't equate members of her family being killed by misdirected Israeli military fire to her TARGETING and KILLING 19 unarmed, innocent civilians.

There is no moral equivalency.

18. You mean they all committed suicide?
Or just one suicide and 19 homicides?

Suicide is a determined and lonely act. Homicide is gregarious just because it involves others.

So if suicide doesn't cover the cost and homicide can't quite describe it either, what's happening here? Really bad party bombing?

A noble act with a nasty impulse? Today a young woman thought it was nifty to kill babies and children. Her people will enshrine her for it.

Still, you can't really call it just suicide. How about human sacrifice bombing?

God that is a 100% POS operation. If I had the chance to kick the crap out of the whole lot of'em, I'd start with that disgusting "Fox & Fiends" morning crew, then kick Colmes' ass, then that smug, pudgy Cavuto, then squinty punk Hannity, then old lady O'Really.

I especially hate when they say "Hannitize". It sounds like some sort of pervo sexual assault. I hate the word "Hannitize"

22. I never did get that one, either
the only reason "suicide" was added was to differentiate between the two different MO's. One they plant it. One they carry it.

Why on earth they think anyone is glorifying either is beyond me. They don't really think that, either. They just made up the "glorification" part the same way they made up the liberal media myth. A ruse to put them on higher ground than us. They just end up looking like idiots so they can appeal to idiots.

From http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/EJ04Ak01.html:

...The average frequency of misperceptions among respondents who planned to vote for Bush was 45 percent, while among those who plan to vote for a hypothetical Democrat candidate, the frequency averaged only 17 percent...

For each of the three misperceptions, the study found enormous differences between the viewers of Fox, who held the most misperceptions, and NPR/PBS, who held the fewest by far.

Eighty percent of Fox viewers were found to hold at least one misperception, compared to 23 percent of NPR/PBS consumers. All the other media fell in between.

...As to the number of misconceptions held by their audiences, Fox far outscored all of its rivals. A whopping 45 percent of its viewers believed all three misperceptions, while the other commercial networks scored between 12 percent and 16 percent. Only nine percent of readers believed all three, while only four percent of the NPR/PBS audience did...

It started at Hasbara. It terminology change occured because the term "suicide" is viewed in a more sympathetic manner than "homocide".
