"Army Changes Story about Soldier's Death"

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. Army said Saturday it knew for more than a year that 1st Lt. Kenneth Ballard was not killed in action in Iraq, as it initially reported.

The family was not told the truth until Friday.

Ballard's mother, Karen Meredith, of Mountain View, California, is a public critic of the war. She traveled last month to Crawford, Texas, to participate in the protest outside President Bush's ranch by another grieving mother, peace activist Cindy Sheehan.

On Memorial Day in 2004, the day after Kenneth Ballard died, the Army informed his family that he had been killed by enemy fire while on a combat mission in the south-central Iraqi city of Najaf.

2. OMG my heart goes out to this family

This god damned government and the military liars!!! I cannot imagine the already open wounds this family endures but now with this news. I have four boys and one daughter that are draft age and I as a parent and one that detests this pirate admin. I would die with my child I am afraid. This would be too much for me.

3. And we just heard another story this week about the family who

was told their son killed himself just hours before coming home from Iraq. The casket arrived locked, they busted it open and found he had been shot in the back of the head.

At first I had thought this was the same family as in the above article, but I don't think it is.
