1. There were still lines at poll closing due to the lengthy ballot..
There were still lines at poll closing due to the lengthy ballot, due to the amendment voting, according to WWL ch 4 NOLA. Not sure what they did with these people.

3. At my precinct
If you're already in line at the cutoff time, you still get to vote. If you show up even a minute late, you're turned away. Don't know if that's statewide or not, but that's how they do it here.

That can only be good for the Dems! Let's hope the rest of the state follows suit. OTOH there was a pretty big turnout at my precinct, which can't be good... mostly Repukes here.

and in a Jindal/Blanco race, Blanco will be heavily favored. Besides that has New Orleans been counted yet? When that happens Jindal should fall way down hard.

It seems like the two of them are running very close together. I hope that it is clear that one of them won and there isn't any dispute between the two of them. It would be very bad if the party wasn't completely united against Jindal.

Is Blanco or Ieyoub better against Jindal?
It appears that Jindal will come in first and that Blaco or Ieyoub will come in second and make the recall. Who do you think is the better candidate in the runoff. I think I saw a poll that had Blanco with a very low negative rating and Ieyoub's was somewhat higher. So, I guess that Blanco would have a better chance.

Does anyone else have a different view?

I know that neither are particularly popular because they are pro-life but are their views similar on other issues?

Who is more liberal or are they about the same?

Don't mistake her "country" for "dumbass". But, JTF brings up the fact that she's not pro-choice. I understand the misgivings there. I can't confirm that one way or the other, I'm sad to say. It's a case of not seeing the trees for the forest. Regardless, I'm voting for the Dem.

61. She's soft in demeaner, but hard as nails when it comes to campaigning
I think she will be in the runoff and will be the first female governor of the State of Louisiana. I am in Lafayette Parish and we have had some kind of trouble at the Clerk of Court's office. Numbers are just now coming in. Kathleen should do well here, since this is her home. Since New Orleans has already said she is the dem that will be in the runoff, I guess she did well in NO. I know she'll do well here. She ran a clean, very dignified campaign. I don't think she has ever lost a race. Someone correct me, if I am wrong.

44. That's good
It would be great if that race avoids a runoff.

It is important that there will be some other people, like Landrieu, in other statewide offices that can prepare for future elections, particularly if Jindal wins. Hopefully, we won't have to worry about that.

It is kind of a problem, IMO, that in New Jersey we don't have any other statewide elected offices except for governor so there isn't anyone to run for governor that anyone has ever heard of. But in Louisiana there are plenty of strong future candidates and if democrats hold those offices than we have an advantage in the next elections.

50. I can't wait until November
I'm such a loser, I really enjoy watching election results come in. This reminds me of how I just can't wait until November when the New Jersey legislative elections are held. And there is also the Mississippi and Kentucky races that day. And then Louisiana holds its runoff a couple of weeks later. And then the Iowa Caucuses and New Hampshire primary and other primaries and then finally the November 2004 general election, the ultimate election.

I really need to get a life!

51. I'm with you NJDem
in fact I like the electoral college just because it makes the race cooler with all the different races and the maps and all.

52. I completely agree
I think that the electoral college is wrong in principle but it makes the election night so much more fun and interesting.

57. A little update on Mississippi...
Musgrove is looking stronger. He's now either tied or in a tiny lead over Barbour. God willing, I won't have to listen to that smarmy bastard Haley Barbour for 4 years!

69. The electoral college makes it fun and interesting- to steal an election?
Come on, NewJersey. Get real. It's because of the EC that Bush was able to steal the election in 2000 and hopes to steal it again in 2004.

We don't need those colors and that excitement. We don't need that Bush fraud.

What we need is that the Dem, the one with the most votes, wins.

71. However....
In my view Gore shouldn't have won either. Neither got a majority of the votes and therefore I don't think either should have won and that a runoff should occur. All I'm saying is that I really like the electoral college's way of making the race more interesting to follow and providing a more complex election. It is really fun for political junkies liek myself unlike some boring general election where you only follow one national poll instead of 51 seperate polls in the months before the election.

However, if I had a vote in Congress on a constitutional amendment I would probably reluctantly vote to abolish the electoral college. But, it would really ruin election day for me.

Susie Haik Terrell down the tubes...Let her poor excuse for a political career expire tonight...

A toast to my neighbors 'cross the river :toast:

Now either Blanco or Ieyoub can send Jindal packing. Probably wind up a filthy rich lobbyist.

on edit: Damn, ya'll have good food! I'm being taken to NEW ORLEANS for 3 nights for my 50th birthday in March. I can taste the deep fried soft shell crab at Irene's already. I'll expect you guys to have the new Democratic governor in place. Until then...

73. Hey, after you feast in NO,
come over to Lafayette and taste some real cajun food. Believe it's great here, too. That's why it's hard for cajuns to transplant. You just can't take the food with you. Understand, we have great cooks everywhere, but, everybody goes out to dinner here. Go figure! I guess it's because we have so many restaurants. Do visit if you get a chance. Hope you have a great celebration in NO. It's numero uno for that.

but at least Blanco will be better than Foster or Jindal. And I think she has a better chance of beating Jindal than the other Dem candidates. I hope so anyway. :)

62. Question for Louisiana natives
Has Louisiana ever had a pro-choice governor? Wasn't Edwards pro-life Catholic? Forgive me if I am mistaken, I am not from here originally.

75. Well, though not a native, I have lived here for over 20 years
and, not to my knowledge. Too much catholic influence in this state to win if you are pro-choice. Probably some of them are, just won't admit it.

Mitch Landrieu will be the new Lt Governor of Louisiana. (avoided a runoff) nice.

Kathleen Babineaux Blanco will runnoff against Bobby Jindal for the Governors seat.

Charles Foti defeated poor ol' suzanne haik terrel for the Attorney General's office.

repuke holds on to the Sec of State... incumbent holds on. That sucks.

EDIT:
All in all, a good trend. A good night for the Dem barometer in Louisiana.

82. This is GREAT
except for the secretary of state office. Fox McKeithen can kiss my ass. Otherwise, I think Blanco will beat Jindal soundly in the runoff election. Anyone have numbers on the Senate/House elections? For some reason my local stations are not reporting those results.
