I don't think so. I think this level of chaos is well planned, which is obviously oxymoronic, but it has a purpose. What happens when people are stressed, dealing with upheaval in their lives? When the comfort level sinks? When the future looks worse than the present?

2. I think that religion, which is currently enjoying a surge......

of acceptance and popularity (look at how "emboldened" the fundies have become) is going to start turning toward a more secular trend in the near future. I think people are going to start questioning the existence of a supreme being that would allow all of this suffering and destruction.
And please, there's no need for the religious to tell me about "free will" and all that stuff, I've heard it all before. I refuse to believe that an all powerful being capable of creating everything would take such a hands off approach to it's management; that a being that powerful could be so petty and vengeful that it would demand to be praised every waking moment by people that actually have no real proof that it exists. Why not manifest itself in some fashion so people would be SURE it existed? Would not the praise it demands and craves be much more easily accessible by doing that?
Like I said, I think the pendulum is about to shift again. People have turned to god in recent years to make some sense out of a troubling world. I think they'll realize that it has failed most of them.

he would be nicer if:

- There was no homosexulity
- You gave more to the church
- You hadn't touched your peepee so much as a child
- If the entire world worshipped their god
