Question, Katrina and the Courts
I did disaster recovery for 10 years. My job involved saving court / vital records after an event. Now I never had to deal with anything on the level of Katrina, but I know we did loose some stuff even with a 24 hour response time. So here is the question, whats going to happen to the courts. I am going on on a limb here and assuming that all police records are ready for the mulch pile, all current court cases (and supporting documents) are also a pile of wood pulp. Add in the child support orders, and records of payment along with such items as prisoner records and what's going to happen. How is Bush Co. going to fix this pending mess? You have all sorts of court records both current cases, and pending cases that are not going to be on microfilm (easier to fix water damage) and duplicated to two separate locations? How do you take a person to court when you no longer have any evidence? How do you prove someone was ordered to pay, or that you have paid? when the trail is gone?
