have felt compelled as never before to express their frustration and vent, as well.

one of the most reliable sources of information. Even if someone makes a mistake, within minutes someone's come in to correct a mistake or misreprentation and posted links to verify.

There's lots of independants who vote republican or other, in fact thats 70% of the voting block. Guess I'm one.

18. I'm relatively new here myself, but my understanding of a freeper is...
someone who goes to the Free Republic web site (and believes what they say there) or someone who thinks the same way that they do. It's an extreme person on the right. (My guess is that it would be someone who supports the neo-con agenda.)

In reference to voting for the individual, we all feel that that is appropriate at least in theory. I think that most of us would just say that it's been a really long time that there's been a Republican worthy of being president, and most of us just don't believe in the agenda that the Republican party has in reference to America. We feel that the Republican party has lost contact with the needs of the average American. (Strangely, this is what the right says about us as well. Of course, we feel that we're right rather than them.) There are many people here who would never, ever vote for a Republican even if they were "good" candidates themselves because of the power that it gives to the right to completely control all aspects of American life. I am now at this point.

I'm sure that if I'm wrong, someone will correct me. However, I hope that this helps.

Welcome!

It's not hard, and we "oldies" are eager to help you find your way, as long as you are not a "freep" or a "troll", and then we are eager to buy a tombstone for you.

17. thanks for welcoming newbies
I'm like wildhorses, not particularly a political person "by nature". But as the atrocities unfolded for these last two weeks in my beloved New Orleans, I could almost literally, physically FEEL a difference in myself. I called a friend and said, uh, I think I'm having a "spiritual crisis" or something. I could feel "lines being drawn", big thick lines, and it was time for me to - step up, step out, in a way I never have before. I feel I have gone - well, slowly insane here since Aug. 29...helpless, I'm a woman of meagre means, unable to help my dear people as the sweaty, nasty, waterless days went on and on...water, water, water - when the water arrived Friday before last, I will remember it as one of the happiest moments of my life..."politics" has always seemed like a big, stupid game to me, and one I do NOT understand most of the time, but I DO understand that my dear New Orleans was ravaged not so much by a bad, bad storm, as it was by a psycho fuck from Texas, or Maine, wherever, who didn't even have the sense to have someone take a picture of him watching The Weather Channel so that he could ACT as if he was at least PRETENDING to ACT as if he gave a fuck when a hurricane that was delivering the equivalent of numerous nuclear strikes was wiping out huge portions OF HIS OWN FUCKING COUNTRY.
so, I'm a little pissed.
sorry to over-write.

23. Hi, nickyt! I think that I already welcomed you in another thread.
However, I wanted to let you know that your post really touched my heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm glad that you have a heart that can be touched by innocent people made to suffer and die when they don't need to. Many people don't. They watch it but it doesn't mean ANYTHING at all to them. However, let the price of gas go up, and they're ready to kill!

I think that you will find the support here that you need to stay sane. I look forward to your posts -- you write very well and express your emotions well. We appreciate heartfelt sentiment.

By the way, please stay pissed. That will inspire you to keep working to change things.

25. As pericles said,
"Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you"

That's what I'm learning. Suck though it does, politics is something I have to deal with.

Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 11:34 PM by anarchy1999
is intimidated by us. I encouraged her to sign in, I hope she has.

How many more are there?

We lurked for months before we had the courage to make a post.

Interesting and I encourage all those lurking to join in.

We promise, really we do, not to bite.

on edit:

She actually told me she was intimidated by us, she didn't think she was smart enough or that she did not have anything to add. She became my best friend last Saturday and I hope she reads this. She'll know who she is.

Calling all lurkers, please come out. We need you and we love you.

24. I signed up and started posting the very night that I found DU.
I was so excited that I didn't even give myself time to question myself.

PLEASE jump in. We need as many voices as we can get to solve the problems that face our country. When we all work together, DU really is a force to be reckoned with.

If you're really intimidated, sign up and just post to say that you agree with something that a poster said (if you actually do agree, of course). It's a good way to get your feet wet. As you get more comfortable, you'll find yourself actually starting to add more than just your agreement to a post. Also, please realize that if nobody responds to your posts, it doesn't mean that you aren't valued or that people aren't reading them. If you're a lurker, you know that many people read posts and get things from posts even if they don't reply to them.

Welcome to all of you who are new!

34. I hear you, bluedawg
me, too. Maybe it really crystallized for a lot of us just what this Administration from Hell is capable of doing to its own "beloved countrymen". Does your name refer to those "blue dog" paintings I used to see in New Orleans? Makes me wonder if you have ties there...but it doesn't matter where you're from - I love the simplicity of your statement, and it perfectly describes why I'm here now...
Thank you Dream for yet another warm welcome - much appreciated.
