Should the Miramax movie "Venom" be released next Friday?
Edited on Sat Sep-10-05 11:25 PM by Radio_Lady
As some of you may know, I review movies for a local PBS station.

I am very distraught that a movie with this synopsis is actually being previewed next week and released on Friday, September 16, 2005.

Maybe I am over-reacting and it's just a small thing to some people, but I find the whole subject distasteful and unappealing at this time. I recall that several movies were either shelved or held for release later -- after the Twin Towers disaster in September, 2001.

Your opinion?

Thanks in advance...

3. you may want to look at the movie
Zoolander that was released days after 9-11 and made it ok to laugh in a way. However I don't see any reason whatsoever to not release or to hold up a movie just because it takes place in Louisiana.

4. Miramax is going to love you for helping them promote this movie
with a little controversy.

I'd never heard about this movie until now.

9. Well, it's had little or no publicity, and it's my choice whether to spend
my time even seeing it next week. I'm probably not going to the press preview -- because there are other films that seem more interesting. I usually see three or four films each week.

By the way, the controversial documentary style movie was "Oil Storm" which played on cable TV in June 2005 and predicted so many of the things that actually happened with Katrina.

"Google" it as I did and see how many people are trying to get a copy of it right now -- or get to see it again. Very interesting!

11. Just watched the trailer
Looks like drive-in poot. A waste of money trying to reinvent the Michael/Jason/Freddy franchise for the zillionth time. Gack.

5. I heard "Invasion" has been postponed
That's the one about aliens showing up after a hurricane or something. My step-daughter and I were watching the commercial days after the hurricane and it gave us both the heebeegeebees.

I still didn't want them to postpone it. I imagine that it might be too creepy for some folks.

Removed the hurricane part.

I far as I've heard, it's still on schedule.

But things change.

6. If they don't release it, the hurricane wins
sorry, I couldn't stop myself

not showing a movie because of where it's located isn't
going to go anything to help anyone.

8. No, not a problem
I'm not bothered by any movie that by circumstance has a theme that reflects a current tragedy. If someone tries to market such a movie capitalizing on the connection ("Ripped from today's headlines!"), that's another story.
