What do you think of my new bumper sticker?
Sorry, I'm not sure which link will work...
My husband won't let me put "So you're going to Hell, Mr. Bush" on it (or mention him at all)...grumble...

Any suggestions? Different pictures?

1. Pictures
You have so many to choose from -- take a few days and go through some of them. That picture you have is excellent, but it doesn't say "New Orleans".

Incidentally, welcome to DU. Sorry we're all so morbid around here this week.

8. What it does say, to me...
Is mother and child...

This woman is holding her child in the "madonna" pose.

I thought that, juxtaposed with the text, it was striking.

It is after all the child who is "the least of these" because the child is completely not to blame for his situation.

2. I found it simply astonishing that a member of Congress...
and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus had to remind our supposed bible thumping president of that new testament passage the other day.....
war is peace
ignorance is strength

4. Honestly? I don't think you need all those words. The pic is GREAT,
JUST caputure something like 'failure of leadership' pictures speak louder than words

7. Matthew 25:41-46
ALWAYS include the Bible citation. Even if you don't use the quote OR the picture.

5. Tall for a bumper?
It's possible you can just go with Matthew 25:41-46. Shorter, sharper, and pokes out "Christian" eyes.

Matthew 25:41-46

We should all wear that. Hold up signs at sports events. And demonstrations.

In fact, I would chant it at the White House when everyone meets in DC.

It is only right to use the Bible to destroy their phony Christianity. And any fundamentalist who can still support George after looking up Matthew 25:41-46, is a Satan worshipper whose soul is already forfeit.

10. Yes, it's actually some As and commas in the passage--
I took a little liberty with it. But I'm tired and will figure it tomorrow after church.

It is too tall for a bumper sticker but we have a mini-van. I'm going to magnet-back it and have it printed on 11x17 paper and spraycoat it.

Then I need to get a bunch of No Dubya stickers (we got a new used car) so that people "get it"...

6. What DO YOU MEAN - ""husband won't LET you" - sister
This is the 21st, not the 19th century.

Put what you want on your car.

9. Just like he "won't let me" cook my steak in his tofu pan. :)
It's his car too. And he's a minister. The agreement was I got to put a big protest poster on the back of the minivan - as long as it didn't have a "did you read your Bible, Mr. Bush?" or a "You are going to Hell, Mr. Bush." tag line...

Don't worry. I'm not a shrinking violet.

11. I like it, although I'm NOT a "card-carrying Christian"
"Agnostic" would be the proper term. Googling brought me to the proper quote, and below is what I just posted on my union BBS:

“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come you who are blessed by My Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.’

“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a stranger and invite You in, or needed clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and go to visit You?’

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me’” (Matthew 25:31-40).

12. It's perfect. It gives me goose bumps. God bless everyone of
those human beings in the photo. I think that photo is a powerful choice because of the fear in her eyes. Combined with those words...

Where can we buy it?

13. The Bible quote is perfect
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 03:06 AM by BuffyTheFundieSlayer
But as Pigwidgeon said, the picture doesn't "scream" NO. Also as someone else said, it is a bit tall for a bumper. It would also be a bit much to read driving along the road. I think just a pic and the Bible quote would be sufficient, and very striking.

16. By the way, if you like this, you may like this MP3...
By Keith Green, who died in a plane crash in the 80's.

http://www.lastdaysministries.org/keith/samples/sheep_and_the_goats.mp3

It's called "the sheep and the goats" and is a setting of the entire passage. It's chilling.

20. this is much better but...
For the dimwits out there I'd still put "New Orleans" somewhere on it, if that's the point you want to make specifically.

Enjoy church! (I'm not used to carrying on liberal-type conversations with those who have to go to church... Neat!)

21. Love to point it out - Jesus & crew were all radicals.
Jesus criticized the established government and the established religious authority. Paul sometimes gets called a conservative but if you read his letters in context he's very progressive too.

Many early Christians were killed because they refused to serve in the Roman army, even after Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, leading bishops spoke out against the Emperor, at risk of being torn to pieces by an enraged mob.

I could find similar examples in any period of history.

There are often attempts to play down how radical Christians are supposed to be - Read Matthew 22's "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" passage to see what I mean. This is often interpreted to mean Christians should pay their taxes. Our interpretation is that the coin had a picture of an opressive and unjust ruler and the inscription proclaimed him to be a divine being - It's a symbol of religious and political opression and Jesus is shaming the Pharisees who have made themselves wealthy by collaborating with the blasphemous and opressive power of Caesar.

18. I love it as a poster, but as a bumper sticker...
Takes too long to read...

The same thought perhaps could be put forth with the following words on paper/sticker:

"Whatever you did not do for the least of these, you did not do for Me." - Jesus Christ
"New Orleans - Never Forget and Always Help"

Or something such as that.
