Sad, on CNNI, NG going into houses to rescue people...
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 02:10 AM by lebkuchen
found a nursing home with seven dead bodies.

When they boated to another home and waded over to the front door and opened it, a cute black lab puppy bounded out, happy to see someone, wanting attention. The order is not to take animals, so the men went back to their boat. The puppy started drinking from the filthy water at the front steps.

It's so pathetic that it has taken this long to still look for people, with the animals stranded.

1. Why couldn't they have taken the puppy?
Damn George W Bush.

2. they were ordered not to take any pets
They should at least have some fresh water and a little food, then get on the phone and call some organization that DOES rescue pets and transmit the address to them.

6. I didn't hear that here.
That makes me feel much better. I can begin my day with a smile now.

I hate to see suffering, especially children and animals, since they have fewer options.

3. I saw that this morning.
It broke my heart.

The only positive thing about it is that the soldier said he would call the animal rescue people and tell them where the puppy is.

I have a Lab/Greyhound cross, and that puppy could have been my dog when she was small.

5. This just is so frustrating. Why couldn't a puppy have been taken?
I suppose the answer is they're in a boat and if they can't take all the animals, they won't take any. Damn. At least he said he's going to let animal rescue know; I hope he does.

Where was this? I thought in New Orleans the NG was helping out.

8. We will find an animal shelter to contribute to.
I think there is something on DU about this. I want to send money to any group that is directly working to save these animals now.

13. It's very good the media is showing the animals. It mobilizes the public
to put pressure on authorities to help rescue pets.

There is a call by bestfriends.org to allow NO residents back in to remove their pets from their homes. The animal rescuers simply cannot do it. See this thread for media contacts and sample letter:

10. Yes, very sad.
rescue

c.1300 (n. and v.), from stem of O.Fr. rescourre, from re-, intensive prefix, + escourre "to cast off, discharge," from L. excutere "to shake off, drive away," from ex- "out" + -cutere, combining form of quatere "to shake" (see quash).

12. excellent imagery of what I saw on CNNI
I just gave PETA $100. They are involved in rescue operations there. I hope they find that puppy and then deworm him. He drank that wretched water, poor thing.
