To All My Fellow Americans Who Voted for George W. Bush:(M Moore)
To All My Fellow Americans Who Voted for George W. Bush:

On this, the fourth anniversary of 9/11, I'm just curious, how does it feel?

How does it feel to know that the man you elected to lead us after we were attacked went ahead and put a guy in charge of FEMA whose main qualification was that he ran horse shows?

That's right. Horse shows.

I really want to know -- and I ask you this in all sincerity and with all due respect -- how do you feel about the utter contempt Mr. Bush has shown for your safety? C'mon, give me just a moment of honesty. Don't start ranting on about how this disaster in New Orleans was the fault of one of the poorest cities in America. Put aside your hatred of Democrats and liberals and anyone with the last name of Clinton. Just look me in the eye and tell me our President did the right thing after 9/11 by naming a horse show runner as the top man to protect us in case of an emergency or catastrophe.

I want you to put aside your self-affixed label of Republican/conservative/born-again/capitalist/ditto-head/right-winger and just talk to me as an American, on the common ground we both call America.

Are we safer now than before 9/11? When you learn that behind the horse show runner, the #2 and #3 men in charge of emergency preparedness have zero experience in emergency preparedness, do you think we are safer?

When you look at Michael Chertoff, the head of Homeland Security, a man with little experience in national security, do you feel secure?

When men who never served in the military and have never seen young men die in battle send our young people off to war, do you think they know how to conduct a war? Do they know what it means to have your legs blown off for a threat that was never there?

Do you really believe that turning over important government services to private corporations has resulted in better services for the people?

Why do you hate our federal government so much? You have voted for politicians for the past 25 years whose main goal has been to de-fund the federal government. Do you think that cutting federal programs like FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers has been good or bad for America? GOOD OR BAD?

With the nation's debt at an all-time high, do you think tax cuts for the rich are still a good idea? Will you give yours back so hundreds of thousands of homeless in New Orleans can have a home?

Do you believe in Jesus? Really? Didn't he say that we would be judged by how we treat the least among us? Hurricane Katrina came in and blew off the facade that we were a nation with liberty and justice for all. The wind howled and the water rose and what was revealed was that the poor in America shall be left to suffer and die while the President of the United States fiddles and tells them to eat cake.

That's not a joke. The day the hurricane hit and the levees broke, Mr. Bush, John McCain and their rich pals were stuffing themselves with cake. A full day after the levees broke (the same levees whose repair funding he had cut), Mr. Bush was playing a guitar some country singer gave him. All this while New Orleans sank under water.

It would take ANOTHER day before the President would do a flyover in his jumbo jet, peeking out the widow at the misery 2500 feet below him as he flew back to his second home in DC. It would then be TWO MORE DAYS before a trickle of federal aid and troops would arrive. This was no seven minutes in a sitting trance while children read "My Pet Goat" to him. This was FOUR DAYS of doing nothing other than saying "Brownie (FEMA director Michael Brown), you're doing a heck of a job!"

My Republican friends, does it bother you that we are the laughing stock of the world?

And on this sacred day of remembrance, do you think we honor or shame those who died on 9/11/01? If we learned nothing and find ourselves today every bit as vulnerable and unprepared as we were on that bright sunny morning, then did the 3,000 die in vain?

Our vulnerability is not just about dealing with terrorists or natural disasters. We are vulnerable and unsafe because we allow one in eight Americans to live in horrible poverty. We accept an education system where one in six children never graduate and most of those who do can't string a coherent sentence together. The middle class can't pay the mortgage or the hospital bills and 45 million have no health coverage whatsoever.

Are we safe? Do you really feel safe? You can only move so far out and build so many gated communities before the fruit of what you've sown will be crashing through your walls and demanding retribution. Do you really want to wait until that happens? Or is it your hope that if they are left alone long enough to soil themselves and shoot themselves and drown in the filth that fills the street that maybe the problem will somehow go away?

I know you know better. You gave the country and the world a man who wasn't up for the job and all he does is hire people who aren't up for the job. You did this to us, to the world, to the people of New Orleans. Please fix it. Bush is yours. And you know, for our peace and safety and security, this has to be fixed. What do you propose?

I have an idea, and it isn't a horse show.

Yours,
Michael Moore

I will let you know if he responds. Should be interesting since he is a die hard bush fan and a christian. He said that Hurricane Katrina was caused by god to wash out the sinful cities.

14. If he says that, ask him if 911 was God's way of washing out the
moneychangers from the temple?? I mean, they were aiming at our financial infrastructure, after all....

Your uncle suffers from an inability to think critically. You never know though, the light bulb could go on, and he could, as Oprah sez "make the connection."

29. I have a response to that "God struck New Orleans to punish it" meme
God did not strike New Orleans to punish it. God struck New Orleans to test the mercy and compassion in the hearts of the rest of us. God wants to know if the words of Jesus are words to live by, or simply lip service. "Whatsoever ye do unto the least of these, ye do unto me."

Not that I believe that God had one single solitary thing to do with it, but that's my response to people who have the audacity and unmitigated gall to shove all the blame onto God.

44. Here is my uncles response to M. Moores letter
We all need to Pray for our government leaders no matter who is in office. I have never, never voted strait democrat nor republican in my life. I was a registered democrat until Bill Clinton. I always have tried to vote for the person that I thought would do the best job. Oh, yes and I always Pray for GOD'S guidance and direction, and for the person that will do things in accordance with HIS will.
If I am wrong I Pray that GOD will forgive me.
I believe that no one is perfect except Jesus Christ and that includes George Bush. I do believe he has done things a lot closer to GOD'S will than any president for a while (his dad didn't do too bad as far as GOD'S will is concerned). I do believe that our country is safer now than prior to 9/11. I lost my job because of NAFTA which Bill Clinton is responsible for, but I do not hate him. In fact I Pray for him too.
Much to Michael Moores surprise George Bush did not do anything to New Orleans. Fox news hit the nail on the head this morning. The mayor of New Orleans and the governor sure let the Louisiana folks down. Our government gave New Orleans the funds to take care of the levee but the mayor couldn't account for it.
Let me reiterate GOD was, is and always will be in control and for Michael Moore or anyone else to say anything different is far from the truth.

10. I could get flamed for this, but Moore allows too much
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 04:04 AM by BullGooseLoony
of the anger and rhetoric into his work.

Look- EVERYTHING he said is correct. His presentation is the problem, though. And I'm guilty of the same problem. I did the same thing with a freeper troll last night. I got too rhetorical and angry.

No freeper will finish reading this. It's too combatative, and not objective enough. I saw the same thing in F/911 (which I own and watch on a regular basis). His documentary was OUTSTANDING in its content- the problems started when his own self, his own ego, began "butting in" to the movie too much.

ALL OF HIS POINTS ARE DEAD-ON. I hear MYSELF noting all of them, using them against freepers, just as angrily as he does. But he's got to learn to remove himself somehow in order to gain credibility. LOL I will admit that that is a LOT to ask.

All I'm saying is look at F/911. This was an award-winning documentary, in my opinion one of the best of all time, but there were maybe just a minute or two when he would come in with a voice-over and just destroy the whole effect.

We have to learn to do better than this. These facts speak for themselves. We have to learn some kind of TACT.

The rhetorical questions are very effective in a Socratic dialogue. They're overly combative in politics, though.

11. "These facts speak for themselves. "
The letter was mild. The facts do not speak at all. We the people must continue to speak out and not be politically correct but emotional and speak truth to power. Amerika is sinking into the mire. This latest disaster is only the beginning of the shit storm coming.

The Bush Admin and the Bush Crime Family will destroy this country unless they can be stopped. Since I don't need a visit from thier goon squad I will not type what I am thinking righ now.

17. No, it's not the passion that is the problem.
There seems to be too much "ego" involved, though. It is a GOOD thing to hit HARD. HARD!!!! These motherfuckers need to get knocked the fuck OUT.

But, take Maureen Dowd, for example. She DESTROYS. But she manages to pull it off from an objective point of view. And she doesn't use rhetorical questions, at least that I've seen. They FEEL effective when written, but ultimately they just don't get through. We have to make flat-out statements- not ask questions that we already know the answers to. I'm not quite able to explain why, but there is some kind of ego involved there. We just don't want to turn this into an ego battle, while we DO want to SHAME them.

I don't expect this to make any kind of sense.

....the day * was re-elected. People who have supported this monster will get no quarter from me. They need to understand that they too bear the blame for what has happened to this country. If they can't live with the guilt or refuse to accept it then too fucking bad. I refuse to let them slide by with a pass on this one.

21. I was very upset at Randi Rhodes after the
theft of the 2004 election. I thought she sounded like a screaming, unhinged lunatic and I thought she was viciously attacking callers who disagreed with her.

Your comments are right in that some people will be turned off by Mike's style and not get the information that he is communicating.

I think that each personality trait has good and bad components -- Mike and Randi are fighters -- and that is going to come across in their messages.

I think that when dealing with bullies, you have to be blunt and combative. The only way to silence the RW's constant LIES is to shout over them, to yell right back in their faces.

Since the hurricane I've been writing and calling for our Dem leaders to get dirty. I want to see a lot of Dems with bloody knuckles!

Hence, I think Mike is on target.

Peace.

35. I tend to agree.
At this point it is the voices of others -- the ex-Bush voters who are now saying they will never vote Repub again, the defectors from his cabinet, the flood survivors, even Cindy Sheehan -- who have more impact. Moore has so politicized himself (I am thinking of the book covers and movie ads with himself fighting Bush) or maybe just been a victim of his own success that most who read his words have their minds made up when it comes to him and his arguments, no matter how true the words are.
