Fox Newswatch Show

Did anyone catch this yesterday / this morning? Actually, it was quite good. This is the show where real journalists (Neal Gabler etc.) sit around and talk about the press.

Several points of discussion were interesting. They asked, for example, if the press had questioned Bush's political appointees to FEMA, if the press would have been called "unpatriotic." Discussion also turned to the question of WHY the press didn't cover the issues leading up to the levee breach in NO before it happened. Cal Thomas pointed out that they had been too busy discussing missing white women in Aruba.

Only one of the journalist felt compelled to tow the standard Fox line, and he didn't get the opportunity much to say anything.

--------

AFter the show, I saw the first few minutes of Fox & Friends when one of the three hosts referred to the 9-11 "celebrations" today. She quickly retracted her words, but it was clear that the real journalism was over now.

1. That show occasionally has its high points, but let me assure you...
that Cal Thomas is no journalist.

2. That's true....

there are some other people regularly on the show - Neal Gabler, and the woman (can't remember her name).

Still, this morning, I heard them asking questions I haven't even seen being asked by more supposedly-serious people on other networks.

5. Faux is certainly clever, and they go with the strength
The fact that programs like this are airing portends a major sea change.

It isn't IDEOLOGY with Murdoch, it is POWER. He likes it, he wants it, he needs it, he must have it, because POWER=MONEY, and money is his god.

4. It's the only thing I want to watch on Fox
Last night's was quite good. Even Cal Thomas (who, as has been posted, is not a journalist) slammed the Chimp administration for appointing hacks to FEMA and the Dept. of Homeland Security.

9-11 celebrations! What a hoot! Next spring, remind me to wish all my Christian friends a "Happy Good Friday".
