LDP on the way to "historic landslide" in Japan

I am watching the returns for the election for the Lower House that Prime Minister Koizumi called in the wake of opposition to his scheme to privatize the post office. So far, the right-center LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) and its right-wing confederate Komei-to together have already been declared the winner of 177 out of 480 seats, with 254 seats left to be decided. In contrast, the left-center Minshu-to has only a paltry 44 seats, and its allies have only 2 seats between them.

4. I'm at a loss to explain this, opihimoimoi

The newspaper polls a few days ago showed LDP with 33%, Minshu-to with 28%, and nearly all the remainder as being undecided. It's really odd to me that NEARLY ALL of the undecideds would go for the LDP (or Komeito) at the last moment.

They're saying that more than 70% of the people who generally support the ultra-right-wing Komei-to switched to the LDP. So apparently (and I want to emphasize "apparently"), the right-wingers voted for the party most likely to win, while the left split its votes 3 ways.

to really get a grip...and even if I was, unless I'm in the right circles.....I would find shit and reduced to looking for confirming results.....

10. I've been looking at Japanese web sites to find information on how votes

are counted. There was a law passed back in 2001 that allows for electronic voting in local elections (legislators, councilmembers, mayors, etc.) but I haven't found anything for electronic voting (or tabulating) at the national level. It's interesting that when I searched Google Japan for "Diebold", I got a lot of results for Japanese sites that were asking questions about the reliability of the system.
