I think it's possible to be mindful of our failures and still....
Edited on Sun Sep-11-05 08:11 AM by Kitka
take one day to actually remember the people that died on 9/11/01.

I see so many threads talking about how today people are thinking of how Bush twisted 9/11 to serve his horrible purposes, of how Osama is still out there, of how the names of those who died on 9/11 are remembered every year and it's doubtful the hurricane victims will be.... I think about those things all the time, as so most of you. But that's not my focus today.

I won't be spending the day actually remembering those who died on 9/11 because Bush wants me to, or using their memories to excuse all that has happened since.

But I also won't disrespect those that died on that day by minimizing the loss and reducing them to little more than Bush's excuse for everything. That may how Bush thinks of them, but it's not how I think of them.

1. The problem for a lot of us is just where to focus.
The fact remains that very, very few people have the straight story on what really happened, and none of them are talking. I've never been sure where to place all of that baggage - I just wish I could figure out what we'll know about it in 10 or 20 years.

I guess all we can do is remember that lives of innocents were taken today.

3. I agree. I don't think we should stop looking for answers.
And I don't think we even really have to stop today.... I guess it just feels like some people are marginalizing the deaths. I think for me, at least, thinking of all of the details and political ramifications every other day have made me want just one day to stop and remember those innocents who had no way of knowing what th next 4 years would bring.

Thanks for responding.

2. Sometimes it seems
that the right to continue to mourn 911 has become a Republican right. Some things, like death, just aren't partisan. I grew up in the shadow of those buildings and when I go home the empty space is louder than a dozen jet planes.

I will never forget.

4. That makes me very angry...
It does seem the Republicans claim to have the only right to mourn, and that is a tragedy. Thanks.
