Beware - trolls out this AM
Dem bashing is the order for the day.

I don't understand why some of us love to do the freepers work for them.

1. Well, This's for Them: NAGIN Was/Is a Repuke Who Ran Dem
**************QUOTE*********

Before his election, Nagin was a member of the Republican Party and had little political experience; he was a vice president and general manager at Cox Communications, a cable communications company and subsidiary of Cox Enterprises. Nagin did give contributions periodically to candidates, namely President George W. Bush and former Republican U.S. Representative Billy Tauzin in 1999 and 2000, as well as to Democratic U.S. Senators John Breaux and J. Bennett Johnston earlier in the decade.

Days before filing for the New Orleans Mayoral race in February 2002, Nagin switched his party registration to the Democratic Party. Shortly before the primary election, an endorsement praising Nagin as a reformer by Gambit Magazine gave him crucial momentum that would carry through for the primary election and runoff. In the first round of the crowded mayoral election in February 2002, Nagin received first place with 29% of the vote, against such opponents as Police Chief Richard Pennington, State Senator Paulette Irons, City Councilman Troy Carter and others. In the runoff with Pennington in May 2002, Nagin won with 59% of the vote. His campaign was largely self-financed.

Shortly after taking office, Nagin launched an anti-corruption campaign within city government, which included crackdowns on the city's Taxicab Bureau and Utilities Department. Nagin also made a controversial endorsement of current Republican U.S. Representative Bobby Jindal in the 2003 Louisiana Gubernatorial Runoff over current Democratic Governor Kathleen Blanco, and only reluctantly endorsed U.S. Senator John Kerry in the 2004 Presidential race.

Nagin received a B.S. degree in accounting from Tuskegee University in 1978 and an M.B.A. degree from Tulane University in 1994. He and his wife, Seletha Smith Nagin, have three children: Jeremy, Jarin, and Tianna.

3. So?
This is someone else' opinion. Yes he contributed to both sides. Sometimes that is the only way anyone can make it in local politics. As a matter of fact on the local level there are Republicans that I have backed over Democrats. That's what democracy is supposed to be about. Picking the person that you think is best for the job no matter what party they belong to.

13. The Wingnut Attacks on Him Are Based on the Dem Label
Plus, being a "cafeteria voter" is not ideologically coherent. I *did* vote for ONE Repuke at the local level ONCE. It was a throw-the-bums-out thing, corrupt "Dems" after 12 years of entrenched power ("power corrupts"). Really, I don't think that Dems who perform graft and take bribes are real, ideological Dems---they are just crooks.

who are in the middle of this tragedy and you have done their best under the worst of circumstances.

Bashing each other has it's time and place but so does supporting our own, especially when they are being swift boated by Karl Rove & CO. We just play into their hands when we do this and make their jobs easier.

I would guess that he doesn't want to do any more damage, to that relationship at the moment, because it will directly impact his people if he does. Bush is very vengeful and Nagin knows it. Sometimes who have to swallow some shit, when the white man that has power over you holds all the marbles.

Even in the midst of the disaster, the Repugs only cared about property and security. The Dems cared first and foremost for the people. Nagin did everything he could to help his people. I think that proves he's a real DEM.

40. But
The police were dispatched to protect property during the "looting".

FWIW, I got the impression that at least some of the police force was not impressed that they were pulled away from actually saving people to protect property. There were lots of articles about some of them turning a blind eye to the "looters" and making on the spot distinctions between looting and gathering. (Remember the story about cops only letting people take a pair of shoes from a store if they were the right size for their feet?)

This has been in the recesses of my mind since the incident.

Shooting each other should never be the order of the day.
But, given starving, dehydrated, panic stricken people and a total loss to whatever store owner that was (insurance),
WHERE IS THE CRIME? I could be wrong about this.

But people have to eat.
And don't incite them to shoot each other to do it!

in the last two weeks.

However, even the strongest of men have to know when to back down, especially when peoples' lives are still at stake.

Don't people understand how vulnerable New Orleans is right now? There are a lot of dark players who would love to create more chaos and NO would be an easy place to start it.

Maybe because I grew up in a Sicilian family, I understand this mind set and how it works.

12. For what it's worth,
changing political parties so as to be a viable candidate is common. It goes in both directions.

Here in Kansas I know of candidates who switched from D to R because they knew they'd never win with the R after their name. I also know of one woman who switched from R to D so she could challenge the R incumbent in a U.S. House race. Didn't work, in no small part because she was a Republican in Democrat clothing and the voters saw through it.

I wouldn't mind if there was a viable choice, but in the meantime we are stuck working with what we've got and we better start supporting the good ones.

This is the one difference between us and the repugs that hurts us. The repugs support each other no matter what and we can't wait to tear our own apart if they make even the smallest misstep. With support like this who needs enemies?

why Dems bash Dems? Our division is what keeps us from winning so decisively that vote tampering has moved the margins slightly enough to give the victory to the Republicans.

If we hope to take 2006 back to the Dems we need to stick together - really together and with no backstabbing or sniping.

Get it together NOW.

37. Hmm, good question. Well, the general interpretation seems to be
that the republicans are of one mindset, most of them firmly entrenched in Stepford USA. And the democrats are individuals who have all come together under a big tent. I much prefer the latter, but I agree that we need to encourage unity...i.e. pick your battles wisely. I think that we have come a long way toward this goal by having organizational media voices such as DU and Air America Radio (and my favorite news show hosted by Jon Stewart). So we have to support and encourage their efforts loudly, and work in unity, as you suggest, to win a victory in 2006.

BTW, WELCOME!!! :)
