have not seen any reports on addicts

disaster planning should include addicts.

addicts: physically sick with withdrawl.

tobacco
alcohol
coke (crack)
speed
heroin
pain pills
pharma
etc.

as an example, in the last bad hurricane we had the alcoholics were in a bad way. as soon as possible (which wasn't very soon) the ones with DTs were taken off to the hospital.

addicts get desperate when their bodies start screaming and don't think clearly so cause problems.

don't know what can be done about it - but is it considered at all in disaster planning?

2. Good point
Obviously people who are dependent upon medication that has been precribed to them would probably be supplied with medication as soon as possible. Is there a way to check who has valid prescriptions when there is a huge diaster? I suppose that most things are computerized online, but what if they weren't?
As far as illegal drugs, I don't know if recuers are as sympathetic. Some of these people do have bad withdrawal symptoms though if they are without their drug for any length of time.
Certainly addicts who are also suffering from starvation and dehydration would be at increased risk of withdrawal symptoms turning fatal.

3. don't worry...
between the "shoot to kill" orders, bulldozers, gators, dogs, etc...all that mess will be cleaned up in time for 2010's "A Taste of Old Orleans" ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4734246&mesg_id=4735062 )

4. The only thing I read on the addict question

I have been wondering the same thing. Here is something on the disaster and addicts- http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread21093.shtml

If laughing grass were legal, people that understand these things would have seen to it that there was plenty of laughing grass to go around. There is a lot of pain attributable to the federal fantasyland we now endure.
