1. This time they don't have to worry about minimum wage.
So take your chances.

4. Thank you for clearing that up for me, Merwin.......
I was beginning to think that the minimum wage for NO was higher than the minimum wage for the rest of the country.

New Orleans Voters Approve Minimum Wage

By STEWART YERTON COPYRIGHT 2002 TIMES PICAYUNE

Voters on Saturday made New Orleans the first city in the nation to impose an across-the-board minimum wage $1 higher than the federal rate, a decision hailed as a victory for workers at the bottom of the pay scale but one that is certain to be challenged in court.

The City Charter change approved in Saturday's referendum raises the minimum wage in the city to $6.15 and provides for automatic increases to keep it $1 above adjustments to the federal minimum wage. Although other cities have passed similar measures, most apply only to government contractors or city employees. The New Orleans measure applies to all workers except city and state employees covered by civil service rules. According to Mike Doyle, director of the city of New Orleans' Civil Service Department, there are numerous city employees who earn the federal minimum and many others who make less than $6.15 an hour.

Louisiana's 4th Circuit Court of Appeal has declined to rule on the central issue, which is whether the state law banning a local minimum wage at variance with federal law trumps the local ordinance creating it. The court said voters needed to pass such a measure before the judges would hear the issue. Saturday's vote sets the stage for a ruling.

On edit, I wonder if rolling back Davis-Bacon affects this too?

6. The big difference is that prevailing wage for construction is probably
somewhere around 2-3 times minimum wage.

10. I thought the prevailing wage for construction was about $9.10....
At least, that's the amount I heard being thrown about the last couple of days.

2. What's Their Percentage?
It used to be pretty darned high...no benefits, no vacation time. Perhaps they've improved it...perhaps not.

8. I'm Sorry - Not Clear
We had a temp agency who charged the companies double what was paid to the temporary employee. If the temp's hourly wage was $11.00, the agency was paid $22/hour. The 2nd $11/hr. was their percentage for providing workers and handling their records.

We had Manpower, too, but I never heard how they worked it.

9. Manpower are a bunch of bloodsucking skullfuckers!
If anyone is thinking of going for this, I highly reccomend keeping your own set of records for everything involving your employment. They have this funny way of "losing" things.
