Here's the beginning of the "Planes fly directly into the WTC" (archived) thread on Salon Table Talk (which was open from Sept. 11, 2001 until July of 2002. It's interesting to look at what people on Salon were saying when the attacks began). I see this as a valuable historic cyberdocument.

1. I just think it's interesting to see what people instantly thought about

the attacks ... the breaking news in the media that turned out to be false ... what was going through the Salon member's minds as this was playing out on TV.

This thread is archived on Salon, but I want to try to copy it -- just to have as an historical document of 9/11.

That's a trick question, right? He'll offer a few incredibly banal platitudes, then tell us that this is exactly why we need a missile shield.

And dear God, he'll use it as an excuse to eliminate the First Amendment.



40 minutes after attack:

"Proof that extremists are insane. If the claim is valid. This is the worst thing they could do to promote their cause. They want to be wiped off the planet?

Has it occurred to anybody else that this is the perfect way to start the war that Bush needs to divert people from his total incompetence?"
