Mary Landrieu made a great point, for those who will be freepertized Mon.
Chris Wallace, Fox News Channel, said to her "George Bush has spent more money for levee repairs in his first 5 years than Clinton did in his first 5 years.

She answered, "Yes that is true, George Bush did spend more than Bill Clinton, but you need to remember that Bill Clinton inherited the biggest deficit in our countries history from the Reagan and Bush administrations. George Bush inherited the biggest surplus in our countries history and gave the biggest tax cuts to richest.

The amount of money between Clinton and Bush's to the levee problem was only a couple of million dollars. I wish I would have gotten the exact figure. But in case any of you are attacked by this talking point that has been given by Fox, here is your answer.

1. Clinton did better with less, and wound the NOLA program UP.
Bush was taking it on the downward trajectory.

2. and Bush slashed appropriations for the levees.
According to Fox's logic, we could then say that because Bill Clinton spent more on defense in 8 years than Ronald Reagan in his 8 years, Clinton was therefore the more pro-military president.

7. Landrieu's ALWAYS been a GREAT Senator
And she fight's like a junkyard dog, for what she believes in and for whats best for the state of Louisiana. Based on her scrapping skills, I'd definately want her in the bunker with me.

I still remember when Senator Landrieu told the idiot Suzanne Haik Terrell:

"This is your last campaign."

And I thought to myself "Fuck yeah! Go for it!"

4. Comparison is a desperate political spin.
What was Clinton spending on levee repair before Bush came to office gives you a better prospective of the situation. Comparing the first five years is irrelevant. Spending went down under Bush. That comparison is pure political spin.

5. The Landrieus Are Heroes Here
Mary and her brother, the lieutenant governor who was out fishing people off roof tops in NOLA.

She was blasted her for some of her votes, but now is showing she really speaks for her state and speaks loudly. She tried to play and plead with this regime to get help and when that didn't happen, the gloves came off.

More more the corporate media tries to pass the buck onto the state and local in those regions, the more they're pissing the locals who lived the nightmare and know whose to blame.

Playing "were the levees safe" is a strawman now as the warning from the National Weather service warned of what was in store for NOLA several days in advance...and FEMA knew the possibility existed and could have pre-positioned the necessary provisions to prevent what occured.

This isn't about blame, it's about accountability.

6. Notice the typical RW framing.

Pick a timeframe that makes bush look competent, then compare it against something unfavorable. Without even looking, I will wager that in Clinton's 6th year the funding went way up. but throwing that in would make bush look bad.

I'll also bet that the truest comparison would be "after Cinton increased funding dramatically, jr has brought spending levels back to the sorry levels his dad funded."

BTW - were Chris The Whore's figures adjusted for inflation?

8. Why don't we start with the calculations presented by the experts,....
,...then and in recent years,...with respect to the funding needed,...and start from there. The assertions will be debunked.
