My father is having cancer surgery tomorrow

and I'd appreciate it if you could send good thoughts his way. He's 76 and, other than this, in pretty good health.

It's a recurrance of skin cancer on the side of his face, around the temple. The first time it came up was about six years ago and they thought they got it all then. Now, here we are again.

I'm 500 miles away and scared for him and for my mom.

with all my dad's health issues we were fortunate to be able to be there. Any du'ers that could go hold your mom's hand? When my FIL had prostate surgery, distant friends, online friends showed up to sit with my husband. It was amazing. hugs

14. I was in the same situation with my Dad who is the same age.

Except I'm much further away and he had colon cancer.

Came through like a trooper, as I'm sure your dad will.

My dad under went cancer treatment when I was in high school, for a time it didn't look good (that was scary as hell).

I am happy to report that I graduated from H.S. in 1980 and just got back from spending a week with him. So I am going to have full faith that your dad will be OK.

Damn, that almost sounds like the story of my aunt.
They thought she beat skin cancer, she was full of hope and suddenly it came back. She has always been full of life and joy, always the one who cheered everybody up.
It seems that skin cancer belongs to the nastiest types of cancer.

I hope that your father has more luck than my aunt. Only 1 or two months after her death, her husband died as well because of his heart. I guess he just couldn't live without her.

Secondary surgeries of this type aren't at all uncommon with skin cancer. My grandmother battled it for decades and died at a ripe, old age. Your dad will be fine, but prayers go their way all the same.

My son-in-law has beaten cancer and often the spouse is the 'forgotten' victim in the difficult process of treatment and recovery. It sounds like your dad is surrounded by loving family. Be strong for your folks, brother.

My dad had colon cancer surgery on September 1st. He came home from the hospital this week and is doing well. Dad is almost 84, was very run down, but came through with flying colors. I will keep him and you in my thoughts tomorrow. Keep us posted on his progress. Peace, cmd

29. Last Wednesday, my SO had a basal cell carcinoma removed from temple

It was the second time for her. The previous time was a couple of years ago.

She is currently more upset with appearance than recurrence which is what has me concerned...the incision has a pucker the size of a mosquito bite
