Tomorrow's assignment - 1-877-SOB-U-SOB - Davis Bacon
In the past few days the freak in chief signed an executive order to suspend the Davis Bacon Act. Davis Bacon was passed in the 30s and states that any contractor performing work for the Federal Government must pay prevailing wages of the community where the work is being done. My understanding that in Katrina's path that is a whopping $9.00/hr. Now * is allowing contractors to pay less than that.

My question is who will be benefiting from these pathetic wages - Haliburton and the like - or the tax payers.

Even if it is the tax payers we should contact members of Congress and tell them that this is BS and we want Davis Bacon reinstated.

1. It won't be the taxpayers.
It'll be the major contractors, and the subs will be underpaid too and on down the line. I read an article about the US having to scale back on Iraq rebuilds because we're broke. Go figure dubya is being picky with the foreign aid offered for Katrina work and people. He needs his head examined.

2. Even more reasons to call
well that is exactly what I'm afraid of - but also it is ridiculous to pay such pathetic wages.

More reasons to call Congress

5. I say it is just a "tax increase" on the working class.
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 02:19 AM by Theduckno2
Instead of letting people keep their hard-earned money, they are taxed by reducing their wages below the prevailing wage, to help pay for governement spending. This from a President who says that Americans know better than guvment, how to spend their money.

I type this with a clenched jaw, hoping I don't grind away the enamel on my molars.
