First, Thanks to all the wonderful DUers that helped me out last night with slogan suggestions for my signs for my yard today. The parade passed by this morning with mostly overwhelming support of the messages. I opted for only two signs instead of four ... didn't want to dilute the message too much. It seemed to be a good choice, judging by the response.
Here are the pictures of the signs that I place there this morning:
Both signs:
Sign on the left - "Bush = Category 5 Failure
Sign on right - "Our Soldiers Are Stationed In The Wrong Gulf" (shout out to Babylonsister - too important just to be on my car!)
Now for the reaction:
During the parade, I was surprised by how many of the town employees, elected officials and regular "guys on their tractors" gave a shout out of support, thumbs up of support or other acknowledgment of the signs. The Board Of Selectmen went wild with support. There were two obvious thumbs down moments during the parade, one from a firefighter, which really surprised and saddened me. The other was a good old boy on his horse. The float from the local VFW was very supportive with shouts of support and thumbs up too.
After the parade passes by, the traffic is always backed up for at least an hour and today was no exception. We opted to sit outside and watch the cars pass just to see what reaction we would get. I was again amazed at the number of thumbs up and shouts of support, such as "you are speaking the truth", "Absolutely correct", and even "love your signs". One woman even took a picture of them from her car.
There were a few comments that surprised me. One lady on the back of a motorcycle said "I'm sorry but that is an insult", speaking of the blivet** specific sign. We looked and each other with a "duh" look on our face and my roomie shouted back "We're sorry for you for not seeing it". (Funny note, she had made ME promise I wouldn't engage in response cat calling and ended up doing so herself! :) ) Then there was that one HUGE, brand new SUV. The guy driving started to yell, I actually thought he was going to pull into my driveway and get out to argue with me for a minute, but he didn't. He yelled once, "What makes it Bush's fault?", then his girlfriend in the passengers side, pushed him back away from her window. He yelled it again, she pushed him again and rolled her window up to stop him from further engaging. It was VERY funny but also very pathetic.
The response was amazing from little old ladies and old men to young kids. It made me feel good. It made me feel hope, something I haven't felt in a long time. It was a good day for sharing this message with my community.
Thanks for all that helped me last night with suggestions. I have saved that post and plan to keep the signs out there and change them out to keep the message fresh when needed.
Each One - Teach One ... in living color!
Once again, for at least tonight, I believe again!
