Al Frankin, beginning today. They have been taking phone "votes" from listeners as to what they want to hear on the local station, and I guess the people spoke loud and clear!

And, I don't dislike Frankin, but sometimes his "humor" gets to me. What I like most about his show is the guests he has on: Conason, Oliphant, etc.

KPTK-AM (1090) is shuffling its weekday lineup to emphasize West Coast hosts beginning Monday. Stephanie Miller's Los Angeles-based show takes over the 6-9 a.m. slot currently held by "Morning Sedition," which moves to 3-5 a.m. Thom Hartmann's show, originating in Portland, takes over the 9 a.m.-noon slot currently held by Al Franken, who moves to 3-6 p.m. Ed Schultz stays at noon-3 p.m., while Randi Rhodes takes the 6-10 p.m. slot and Mike Malloy is heard 10 p.m.-1 a.m.

With the new programming, seems like many of the shows are "taped". Hartman is 3 hours later than normal, same with Franken, and Randy.

19. I'm with you. I would rather listen live when possible.

If I'm working in my office, I can stream Randi live, but if I have to go somewhere between noon and 3, I'll listen to Ed Schultz. I know some people don't like Ed, as he is not as far to the left as they are (he's not as far to the left as I am either). But I really do think he speaks to the people who AREN'T very left. I think about my brothers, both of whom voted for Bush (but aren't Bush-bots, thank goodness). I cannot imagine them listening to Randi, but I could picture them listening to Ed.

21. Ed was on CNN yesterday in relation to his organization

which helps families to settle in ND. He even sort of praised Bush for finally coming to NO and touring it -- and if I didn't know who he was, and since he was identified only as a radio show host, I wouldn't have had a clue about his politics and would have probably assumed he was another one of these conservative radio show hosts -- that's how careful he was!

What they had been doing is broadcasting Al and Ed live, Randi from 3-7, on delay, Mike life 7-10, and Majority Report delayed 10-1 am.

I know different AAR stations around the country have different line-ups.

10. Remember--Franken was crucial in getting AAR off the ground.

He was the initial star and I give him credit for contributing a lot to AAR's birth and infancy. His book "Lies and the Lying Liars..." was a bestseller for a long time and many people who read that book started listening to him on AAR. Now, however, he's lost some of his shimmer and others have grown brighter but I will always give him credit for lending his commitment, celebrity and talents to AAR in the beginning when many were skeptical.

23. Thom and Mike Malloy were critical to the founding of AAR too

They just don't get a lot of public acknowledgement for it. Thom wrote an article about the need for progressive radio, and the idea was followed-on by the original AAR founders (like the Drobnys). Mike Malloy played an important role during the early days when the concept was being developed. I think Liz Winstead played an important role too.

There are lots of unsung heroes, but Franken and Randi definitely sing their own praises the loudest.

25. Franken's guests are great....

...but I believe that Hartmann's message of Progressivism and his prodigious on-board wealth of historical information of the creation of this nation and the people who created it, his ability to access that information on-the-fly (deep drawer, instant access), his warmth, gentile humor and decency, and his caring for humanity and the earth, make him not just a great radio show host but a beacon of Progressive thought.
