Karl Rove is probably throwing objects about his office in a fit of rage
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 01:36 PM by Walt Starr
Think of it. Everything, EVERYTHING this asshole has worked his entire life to implement is unraveling right now before his eyes, and everything, EVERYTHING, they try to do to stop the bleeding is only making matters worse.

They've got an image problem that makes Walmart look like it has a slight marketing issue. This problem is extended to the entire Republican Party and its agenda.

Yep, glasses, vases, chairs, and other objects must now be just so much broken glass and kindling in the Rove home office these days...

2. I don't think so
he is so arrogant, I think he and some of the others still think everything is fine. they are still spinning everything. Unless/until he is indicted or put in jail, he'll continue to live in a fantasy world.

10. Me neither
These people are sociopaths. According to one source, "There's really no effective treatment for them ((sociopaths)) other than locking them up in a secure facility with such rigid rules that they cannot talk their way out."

19. It's not bush they're worried about anymore...........
it's the "agenda", the precious "agenda". They'll jettison bush in a New York minute if they think he's jeopardizing the "agenda". They'll find another mindless Putz and continue onward with their fascist plans, count on it.

5. Must be bad for his kidney stones...
From Time mag:

And as if the West Wing were suddenly snakebit, his franchise player, senior adviser and deputy chief of staff, Karl Rove, was on the disabled list for part of last week, working from home after being briefly hospitalized with painful kidney stones.

8. maybe Karl was just bored
and allowed this political disaster to unfold just to make his job more interesting. Maybe the media had become so compliant and obedient to the Whitehouse, it just wasn't fun for Karl any more. Maybe he figured he'd mix things up a little, and at the same time prove how invaluable he is, by letting Bush scramble all the way up into the attic of the Whitehouse, water pouring in after him, rising all the way up to his little Chimpy neck, before Karl came zooming in on a chopper to airlift him away from harm.

Because everyone knows Karl is the only political strategist who is brilliant and savvy enough to keep the President from coming across as a heartless psychopath who doesn't give a shit about the death and destruction of the citizens he is being paid to protect.

9. Walt ! I'm surprised!
You really think Karl thinks his house of cards is coming unglued?

I don't.
This is another damn speed bump. NPR will have Mara and Juan and Cokie tag-teaming on Morning Idiotion the rest of the week to get the Bad Taste washed out of our ears, and the rest of the Media Ho's will be brought back on course.

Then they will beat the drum of "Defining Moment!" "ALL Blanco and Nagin's Fault!" "I aim to PLEASE! I bring you CHEEZ!" so much that Mr. and Missus Sixpack will question their own memories.

And Rove breathes a sigh of relief, passes a stone and tells Scooter Libby "Boy! that was CLOSE that time!"

"If you repeat a lie often enough, the People will come to believe it as true."

Rove ain't doing shit beside rubbing his back and letting Nature take it's course...

11. One thing you may be forgetting
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 01:42 PM by jokerman93
"If you repeat a lie often enough, the People will come to believe it as true."

That's the first principle of mass mind control, sure. But it only works in a relative information vacuum. I suggest that Katrina has blown a huge hole in Rove's little media holodeck.

The facts are now finding their way into America's living rooms and pocket books (so to speak). Reliable information hubs like DU are evolving on the World Wide Web and are fast gaining legitimacy. People are hearing about the alternatives. Activists, like the old town criers, are telling their neighbors and friends. All this is challenging the lies of the power structure.

It's not business as usual for KKKarl Rove's sorcery. He may not know it yet, but the rules are changing. Right NOW.

(Pssst. The British are coming! The British are coming. Pass it on.) :patriot:

Even though I have SHOWN my ESSO a NUMBER of times where the MSM is not doing their job, and I have shown her what OTHER Reputable News sources overseas are saying, she STILL will ask me "Where'd you hear THAT? one of those nutty websites you like to read?"... And SHE's almost more Liberal than ME!

Uh, yeah, the AP, Reuters, "The Guardian" the BBC are "Nutty"....

Rove plants the seed that the Press had a temporary fit of insanity, and the RW AM Radio hate machine will do the rest.

I'm surprised that nobody has yet made the prophetic "This Story has LEGS!!!" kiss-of-death statement...

Seen too many stories get the damn legs cut off at the groin to get excited about anything.

Even though I have a great deal of respect for Walt Star.

Sorry, Walt, I won't put the bubbly on ice just YET.

16. I agree that it's a tough struggle
Edited on Mon Sep-12-05 03:51 PM by jokerman93
In a way, we're engaged in a war of competing "realities". The Rove machine frames reality for the kool-aiders by the use of language. Lies and half-truths -- an unending stream of mind poison flowing from the corporate media teat. Until "we" realize this is less about electing new leaders and much more about framing reality using language and consensus among the left of all stripes, we'll be losing valuable opportunities to reverse Rove's media mindf**ks.

True enough:
"If you repeat a lie often enough, the People will come to believe it as true."

Also true:
"If you repeat the truth often enough, the People will come to believe it as true."

In the post-modern global era, mastering the narrative of ongoing history is about assigning meaning to what's happening. It's about fearlessly and aggressively using language to frame events in terms of the truth. At first and for awhile, people will imply you're nuts. They'll dismiss you as well as the entire "Left". They'll close their ears. But they're wrong. Given a chance, the truth rises to the surface in time.

And I agree also, there isn't going to be a single lucky mishap or silver bullet that'll bring these fascists down. We have to continue to be relentless with the truth, whether our "leaders" get it or not.

It's not an easy war to win but consider the alternative.

13. Rove &co are counterattacking --
and taking advantage of the change in (media amplified, if not entirely driven) public focus. And the neocons will beat (or lure) back into line many of those who have strayed -- after all, the neocons control almost all of the goodies. (So what if they have had to rearrange their schedule a little bit -- this is of little consequence.)

Public opinion is largely irrelevant if you (as executive) can maintain the power to implement policy. (This doesn't mean that you ignore public opinion, just that you keep it in perspective.) Of course, if legislators desert you and express this by voting against you, then you can have problems. But the neocons do not rely on the "carrot" -- indeed, they are positively fond of the "stick". And this "stick" includes ruthlessly using the RW echo machine -- and the media in general -- to neocon ends (as treasonous and unnecessarily cruel as these ends may be).

The neocon mindset is terribly simple -- in all circumstances they look to their own advantage. (Of course, they also prepare, try out and refine various lines of bullshit to spin their actions in a way that sells.)

It's the "clarity" of a vulture -- an omnivorous one with a bottomless stomach. (Which is nothing that nature would come up with, because such a creature would devour everything -- so it was up to man to do it.)

Moreover, the neocons have great "spiting spirit", that is, they delight in damage and destruction, defilement and debasement, hatred and spite -- and will gladly do these things even where there is no need.

Now the RW Spin machine cycle will be : "Telfon Bush's poll numbers are up"

It's all about the press cycle...any positive news will get the MSM playling Rove's game again.

18. I agree.
I've seen a few comments about Michael Brown resigning, that said something to the effect of, "yeah, but that just distracts from Bush's role." Baloney. It should be appreciated for what it is: knocking the guys around him away, and exposing Bush as an incompetent leader. While it's true Brown wasn't one of the very top of the "inner circle," he made a huge series of blunders that added to the tragic events of the past two weeks. Americans saw their president on a film clip shown over and over, saying, "Brownie, you've done some good work." The White House machine insisted that clip be played, and it back-fired on them.

This is an important event in the struggle to get rid of the cancer on the presidency. Good call, Walt. I agree 100%.

20. Current poll numbers are utterly meaningless
By the time the 2006 elections are in full swing, believe me, with 756 zillion trillion dollars in campaign funds, they will run so many propaganda ads, that the public will believe that Hillary Clinton dynamited the levees, Kerry caused gas prices to go up and unless you vote for a republican for congress your dick will fall off.

Premature exhultation, my friend.

The incompetence and thievery is free to continue to reign.
