Plame affair...uh oh...Fitzgerald losing job?

Rove/Plame: Fitzgerald to lose his day job?

The Chicago Tribune reports today former Illinois Senator Peter Fitzgerald, who championed the appointment of Patrick Fitzgerald (no relation) to the US attorney's post in Chicago in 2001, is worried about "mounting political pressure" against his protege's reappointment to the post this fall. The former senator speaks of foes in Illinois who'd like to stop the US attorney's corruption probes; he does not mention the US attorney's moonlighting gig as special prosecutor in the Plame investigation. He's a Republican, after all. But the point is clear enough....

that doesn't mean they aren't going to try to fillibuster his investigation however they can....

I heard judith miller just agreed to a plea bargain.....the fireworks are starting.

4. Saturday Night Massacre; Fitzgerald goes like Archibald Cox

Only with no fanfare from the media, as "American Idol" gears up for a new season. Fitzgerald is toast, and he has no doubt been told so. With Rove the subject, everybody backs off - or they are destroyed. And that's the way it is.

Rove doesn't scare him.

Like Cox's firing helped to bring down Nixon, Bush's overreaching to stop Fitzgerald may finally bring him down, although with the yahoo corner of the massive number of media outlets Bush has, it will be tougher.

9. The Plame job is totally separate from

his work as US Attorney. He was appointed to the Plame case and is to see it out. He can't be removed from it.

11. Fitz will maybe lose job as US attorney

but he would still keep his position as the special prosecutor in the "Plame Affair". The two positions are unrelated.

I'm thinking they might renew him anyway. They should know that the threat of losing his US attorney appointment won't scare him off of the Plame stuff. Also, if he loses the US attorney gig, he's free to spend ALL his time on the Plame case, and not be forced to divide his time between them.

Of course, logic rarely prevails in Washington, especially lately.
