8. It's very institutionalized in Ireland. They know you from

your neighborhood. If you aren't in their Church, you are in the other one's church. You can't go to the same schools or drink in the same pubs. One of my friends actually lived in a Protestant neighborhood because her mother was orginally Protestant although converted to Catholicism so she was allowed to live there when widowed, but her children were treated like second class citizens on a daily basis and they had to go to the school the Catholics went to.

What do you think the big stink is about the Orangemen (Protestants) marching through Catholic neighborhoods every year? That's the equivalent of White Supremists marching through Harlem with a burning cross and the Confederate flag once a year, just because they can.

The saying that the Irish are the blacks of Europe has nothing to do with the Black Irish but rather has to do with the status of the Irish at one time.

I think the idea that the Black Irish are descended from marooned dark sailors, presumably from the Spanish Armada, has been refuted.

Why did these whites steal the gas out of another neighbor's tractor, when he is one of the hardest working, kindest men around? Do whites have no souls?

Why did a young white man shoot and kill two other white young men RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE POLICE STATION in a town not far from here? Have whites NO respect for human life or law?

You see how easy it is to assume things about a group?

But they are INDIVIDUAL humans who make these poor choices, and these INDIVIDUAL humans come in all shapes, colors and sizes.
