28. I vividly recall such DU rumors about a year and a half ago.
It is true that the grand jury is close to closing up shop, though, which may naturally give such speculation a higher probability of being correct in some way.

2. It's time! "management" is fed up with *'s bull shit. "Resigned"
after Cheney goes, "resigned" with Poppy pulling him out of the Oval Office by his ear. This is like a Restoration Comedy! or some scenes of real degeneracy among the European monarchs of old (Europe, haha).

Phlames...you're too cool...and I like the sentiment...it's time...

...as Starskey says "Let's do it!"

4. Rove is not enough
Cheney was involved too. Novak has to go, unless he's cooperating. And how about Bush himself? He lied to congress and he knew it. that is a prosecutable offense.

9. it all points at Cheney; Libby and Rove are going to get slammed but ...
.... the big, juicy target is Cheney. And, all that stuff Condi did to try to deflect from "the office of the VP" tells you that Cheney is the big fish. Of course, Condi and the WHIGers are all going to do time -- so sorry James C, lonely nights and all that.

This pack of meat is gonna roast, slowly ........

Peace.

13. my thought is...
Remember how the Clinton investigation started with Whitewater and evolved into Monica? I think Fitzgerald could be evolving the investigation too. I think it could be going beyond the Plame release. It could go directly to the Niger documents and the State of the Union address.

15. It will go along that path and that path leads directly to Cheney.
And, Fitzgerald and lots of other folk, like us, know it and have known it for quite sometime.

Just remember what Cooper said about the persons he found himself in front of in that Grand Jury room. They watch TV.

These neoconster guys and dolls are going down, hard.

Peace.

Wouldn't it?

21. Bush has never testified under oath.
So he is not prosecutable for perjury before Congress.

However, he is impeachable for lying to Congress regardless of an oath.

Look for it on Friday, probably late in the day.

People have mentioned Libby, Hadley, Rove, Miller, and Novak. But nobody seems to be focussing on the biggest criminal of the bunch, that's Rice who likely was the violator of the 1982 Intelligence Identities Act. Add to that likely indictments for conspiracy to violate 1982 IIA, perjury, perjury before Congress, conspiracy to suborn perjury, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to obstruct justice. If Fitz piles it on, Condi's not gonna get out of jail for some time if she's convicted of all charges. Hell, if the GJ is in a bad mood they may entertain a treason charge for ol' Condi.

West Wing Staff, basically, the White House Iraq Group
===============
Condi Rice
Karl Rove
Stephen Hadley
I. Stewart Libby
Karen Hughes
Mary Matalin
Ari Fleischer
(may be others)

Reporters who might have lied, or refused to cooperate
=========
Robert Novak
Judith Miller

Of course, then there's the bosses, who cannot be indicted but may be named in a sealed addenda, or something (like in Watergate).

20. Why can't Bush be indicted?
just curious?

I read on an article about impeachment that an indictment against a sitting president would trigger impeachment.

22. Because he is the President of the United States.
Since he is above the head of the Justice Department, the DOJ has no jurisdiction over him. Only Congress can indict (impeach) and try him (in the Senate). After he has been removed from office, he can then be indicted for crimes committed in office.

23. The DOJ isn't the only one who can bring charges against bush
Here's that article I read:

http://www.house.gov/lucas/news/speech105/fs_980913.htm

The impeachment inquiry process can be triggered in a number of ways, including: charges made on the floor by a Member; a resolution (piece of legislation) introduced in the House by a Member and referred to House committee; a message from the President; charges transmitted from the legislature of a state or from a grand jury; facts explored and reported by a House investigating committee; a suggestion from the Judicial Conference of the United States; and due to statutory provisions regarding the use of an 'Independent Counsel' enacted in 1978 and reauthorized in 1994, an independent counsel must "advise the House of Representatives of any substantial and credible information which such independent counsel receives, in carrying out the independent counsel's responsibilities ... , that may constitute grounds for an impeachment."

Unfortunately, the Independent Counsel laws have expired and have not been renewed (hmmm, can't figure out why the Republicans haven't renewed that law during a Republican admin...:sarcasm:). But there appear to be several ways to trigger impeachment.

29. That is correct.

But only Congress has the power to act on the information provided by these other sources. In Watergate, Nixon was named by the grand jury as an *un-indicted* co-conspirator because of his status as POTUS. Maybe it is possible to indict a President, but I think the GJ may yield to the Congress as they did in 1974. However, if it is indeed possible to indict a President, under these circumstances (House firmly in Repug hands) that may be a good way to approach it.

on edit: Regardless, the indictment of a President by DOJ underlings has all sorts of separation of powers and other Constitutional implications.

25. The Repugs wanted to indict Clinton
but right before he left office he settle the case out of court I believe, therefore avoiding indictment, so the issue was never really settled.
