Bush aides were too chickenshit to talk to him....
Because he has them all intimidated...IF they don't go along with the King, they will find themselves amongst the peasants. Don't bother him when he is on vacation. That's why he was so pissed off at Cindy Sheehan. He thinks he's fucking royalty.

It is not hard to believe that he did not know about the hurricane. He knows all he needs to know. He doesn't need to read newspapers or watch television. When he is on the job, his "brain" and others will tell him what he needs to know. When he is on vacation, don't dare to interrupt. Nobody had the nerve to tell him. A White House full of "yes men" can be very, very dangerous.

1. Ehh, I think the article about being "too afraid to bring him the bad news
was just a failed PR operation. Tried to bring in some humour.

"Sir, we have bad news. Potentially thousands of Americans are dead, and, even worse, you have to cut your vacation short"

Part of me thinks that they just invented this little story to somehow endear Bush and his staff to the public, to make him look human.

But it seems to have backfired.

12. Bush Is Starting To Sound Like Saddam . . .
Now, compare that to the final CIA WMD report about Saddam Hussein's regime:

WEAVING A CULTURE OF LIES
The growth of a culture of lying to superiors hurt policymaking... Lack of structural checks and balances allowed false information to affect Iraqi decision making with disastrous effects...

Key commanders overstated their combat readiness and willingness to fight... later admitted misleading Saddam about military readiness...

‘Abd said key Regime members “habitually” concealed from Saddam unpleasant realities of Iraq’s industrial and military capabilities and of public opinion. Fear of the loss of position motivated this deception, which continued until the final days of the Regime.

Asked how Saddam treated people who brought him bad news, ‘Ali Hasan Al Majid replied, “I don’t know.” ISG assesses that ‘Ali Hasan Al Majid has never known any instance of anybody bringing bad news to Saddam.

2. I Absolutely Agree
That's Bush's management style. It's the same as all the sunny reports coming out of Iraq -- he's ten levels separated from what's actually going on.

3. I don't think so
I think they don't tell him about anything important, ever. All they ever do is give him a few sound bites to memorize, dress him up for photo ops, keep his drugs regulated, and occasionally pass along some happy "news", which is usually false.

Face it, can you really picture him getting a fact-based, detailed update on the economy? He'd be daydreaming of his tee time or his flight suit within 90 sec.

What we have here is nothing more than a front man for some really evil movers and shakers. He knows nothing, and they like ti that way

4. responsibility is is own; staff are subordinate and *, willfully ignorant.
they waited until THURSDAY to explain just how bad it really was (NEWSEEK, this week). But where the hell was he? Oh, he never reads any news publication and only watches a couple hours of ESPN most nights...
Isn't that astonishing?

ALL of them should be brought up on felony charges of criminal negligence....
you might even be able to convince a jury that they're guilty of manslaughter: causing the death of another through a specific act, even though premeditation and intent are absent....though you might even be able to argue intent....

7. what's important about this
is not that is happens, we all knew it, but that people inside the white house are leaking non-worshipping statements to the media, this is a first.

8. Of all the things to be concerned about
in this administration, this one troubles me the most. When the "king" must be protected from the truth, look out.

That isn't leadership. That is something else.

10. what a dilemma this presents for Repug strategemizers
If they're afraid to tell him troubling news, how are they going to tell him about this, which they kind of have to do in order to implement a plan to rehabilitate his image...
