If DUers are impressed with Bush "taking responsibility"...
Then I guess Rove forced him to make a good career move.

(It doesn't mean Bush means what some people seem to think he said--or even that he thought he was saying what some people seem to think he said.)

1. I don't think any DUer is impressed or even taking it seriously
I think most of us are amazed that he said it at all, and are taking it as a sign of desperation.

33. Yeah, and he commends Bush for being a "big man"
to take responsibility.

What a crock.

responsiblity. that will take some of the heat off.

17. Then QUIT bumping his thread and arguing with him. Let the thing drop!
Honest to God, people. This whole thing is so staged, so planned. The only surprise in this is that Republican voters gave enough of a crap to force Junior into this weasel backtracking.

20. You would think we know it's staged and planned
I think it's important that people know that these empty words are going to work on a large number of people.

Let it sink and let everybody keep thinking that nobody will buy it. I guarantee you some will. And they won't all be freepers.

22. If you read his words, they're really not very different from what he
always says. He even repeats the idiocy about "finding out what went wrong and what went right." He is constitutionally incapable of accepting responsibility the way normal people do.

I think it's a pretty safe bet we won't be seeing anything like that.

For he is not an honorable man, you see.

6. My thoughts about him "taking responsibility"
zzzzzz. Another line of shit. Of course he's ultimately responsible, but for him to say it, sort of, is too little, too late and not genuine.

9. He said the words, but they're empty.
Look back over the years of his presidency. Where his administration is concerned, they've always been swift to point fingers at anyone but themselves. This is nothing more than an attempt at scraping the bottom of the barrel, so to speak, for damage control.

Sadly, I fear that people less aware of politics will somehow see him as a good or sympathetic figure because he's being "honest".

18. Is there a transcript yet?
I missed the conference (on purpose), expecting the same ol' same ol'.

Was it a direct question like:

q. Who is responsible?

and a response along the lines of:

a. I accept full responsibility. The failure to respond appropriately was completely my fault. Activating and implementing all available resources under my authority should have taken priority over my vacation. I apologize to the citizens of the United States of America for failure to - blah blah blah

After 5 years, what has Bush done to make anyone think this is anything but a PR stunt?

If you think Bush is sincere about this, you are a fucking idiot. Period.

27. It should have been followed up with the words "I will resign..."
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 12:35 PM by DearAbby
Then and only then will I believe he is being honest. The wording of the statement rings hallow.

It's an empty apology to fool the bots. Might as well said "with this being said, let's move on"

These guys are horrible at timing...this would have went alot better last week...too many sound bytes "heck va job Brownie" being one..."what wasn't right?" another.

An apology followed up with the words "I will resign..." As Rummy would say "be a man, get yer balls outta your purse" do the right thing.

On edit...What apology? Taking partial responsibity, wishful thinking on my part. I would actually believe the Rapture is about to take place and seeing Jesus in the clouds would force an apology from *'s lips.

Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 12:46 PM by mcscajun
It's all Rovian bullshit.

"To the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right..."
Weasel Words.

"...serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government."
More Weasel Words.

In short, "we're still going to try to blame State and Locals wherever we can, but I'll take a hit, too, okay?"
