What does it mean to take full responsibility....
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 04:07 PM by Postman
when there are no consequences to pay?

Yeah, Mike (Brownie) Brown resigned. Big Deal. He shouldn't have held THAT post to begin with.

From the Iraq War to the Katrina response and everything in between, this administration has been one big debacle from the start.

How about REALLY taking responsibility and resigning from the Presidency.

Paul Krugman covered it well...How many more FEMA's (i.e. inept agencies) do we have in the Bush Administration? FDA? EPA?.....

1. EPA said lower Manhattan was fine after 9/11
and they were WAY WRONG. FDA said there was no Mad Cow disease in U.S.: WRONG. You're right, we're probably awash (!) in ineptitude ... AND WE DON'T EVEN KNOW IT!

2. It means you know how to use the word "responsibility" in a sentence
Edited on Tue Sep-13-05 04:28 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
but have ZERO understanding of it's greater meaning.

I am a realist. I don't expect George Bush to resign.

I DO expect that if he were to TRULY take responsibility, he would acknowledge that he took a VERY effective agency, bundled it up in a bunch of bureaucratic bullshit and rendered it ineffective. I would expect he would say he RUINED FEMA by handing it off to his corporate cronies, and effective immediately, he will be rehiring James Lee Witt and rehiring all the blacklisted professionals who were cleaned out by his petty, unprofessional administration and giving them six months and the budget they need to return to their previously well-oiled disaster response duties.

4. For the Bush family, it means when you are backed into a corner
assume the "humble" posture, look devastated, and hope that time really is on your side and people will forget about it or move on to more important issues like...a biological terrorist attack possibility.

5. "full"? Nonsense.
My reading and rereading of the verbally-challenged sociopath we call Smirk tells me that he's only "taking responsibility" for judging what might've gone wrong. It was NOTHING other than a reiteration of his volunteering to "lead" an investigation into the Federal response to Katrina and assessment of blame. He has acknowledged NO MISTAKES and NO GUILT.

I've been hearing the faux paraphrasing of his remarks and the insertion of punctuation where there WAS NONE. His spoken English bears no resemblance whatsoever to grammatically-correct English. He verbally demonstrates less comprehension of punctuation than I do on my worst day - and that's pretty bad.

DUers should do themselves a favor and REMOVE all punctuation and capitalization from his quoted remarks ... and try and see what the hell he's saying. It's NOTHING.

At this point, I couldn't care less about what he says or what he's purported to 'think' or 'feel' - he's about as incapable of honest thinking as he is of honest feeling. As for what he says ... it's been bullshit and it'll undoubtedly continue to be bullshit.

Until he and his cronies are behind bars for 20 years to life, there's not one damned reason to read the tea leaves.

6. It's supposed to be a "noble" gesture
and we're supposed to admire him for it. In effect, it's a way of reinforcing the notion that the *real* blame lies elsewhere -- so let's move on. You only "take" responsibility when you think subordinates are really the ones who screwed up (even if you set them up to do so). Now all the freepers can say "he said he took responsibility, what more do you want?"

Hannity, Rush, Coulter can then tell America to Move on, it's Old News!
