How Will They Ever Know How Many Dead?
The people are spread out over many states. And I heard reports that alliagtors were eating bodies.

They could say the final number is anything and we would never know.

1. "THEY" will know. WE will never be told the truth.
That is the one aspect of the operation they won't fail on.

RE: The photo caption:
I can only read some German. The alligator "swamp critter" is in a church. I don't know if the photographer saw the gator eating a person or some other animal:
Ein Alligator in der Kirche: Die "Swamp Critters" sind eine zusätzliche Gefahr

An alligator in the church: The "swamp Critters"....?

11. I would rather be eaten by a gator than just left to rot in the sun.
So many of these people were probably out on the fringes anyway. I just hate to think that they died and no one even missed them.

16. Oh...in that case, I don't care.
I'll be rotting someplace, one way or the other, dead. Chow down, little swamp critters!

18. There are more critters than alligators down there in those
swamps. Just the bugs could carry off a full grown man.

3. I think the US census bureau and the CDCP should be tabulating
independent data sets so that a final estimate can be made and evaluated for "error."

6. NO keeps saying the death toll has to be high
So we heard 40,000 (which was probably way high) and then we heard 20,000. Today the toll is about 450. Which is bad enough. But something seems terribly wrong here.

14. There will be an effort to parse the truth...
For New Orleans Katrina and the flooding are in out minds one event.

But in the minds of those who hope to cook the numbers they are very separatable.

How will a coroner know for sure? Did this 20 day old corpse drown during hurricane or drown in the flood? Given a chance the Rove and his army of spinsters will leave these deaths in limbo.

The only way to avoid this is to link all the NO deaths to Katrina and its consequences.

Family, friend, neighbor, public administrator, former spouse, probation officer, etc.

And I heard reports that alliagtors were eating bodies.

Either they aren't paying or they're not receiving or there's death claim.

10. Abundant opportunity for fraud there
People could easily cash the SS checks of people they knew were dead and had no connections.

17. Good point, but the % will probably be small
I'm sure it will happen, but if the number is 20,000 and fraud is as high as 5% (I think that's a high WAG) that's not going to hide very many. Politically, they would need to hide something like 90%

Anyone have stats on fraud in this kind of situation?

Needless to say, I'm hoping that the low estimates on fatalities are indeed correct.

12. New Orleans is a separate issue and should be counted separately
Yes there are deaths in other states, but NOLA is a tragedy above and beyond Katrina. At this point, BUSH is hoping that everybody will merge the two in their minds and write off NOLA as just another storm. Far from it and we should not let them forget it.

and work backwards. That's how they did it for the WTC.

It would be different if the neighborhoods were still intact. But they aren't.

26. They are already
I think the Red Cross is one of the main sources. Then when people reconnnect or the body is identified the name is moved to the appropriate list. You might not get everyone but you'll get most of them.

20. alligators are eating bodies?
let me tell you abt that one

alligators are reptiles, they eat 1/60th the amt of food needed by a mammal of similar size

they will take bites but they are not going to dispose of entire bodies

now let me tell you something else

communities are going to get together, online, if nowhere else

for instance, i'm in a community where everyone in the club, abt 300 of us, are checking down the list, reporting the names of the confirmed dead, the still missing, & those who have been found even if they are in faraway states

if every club, every church, & every circle of family & friends gets together & does the same, and if we then demand a monument like the Camille Monument listing all the names of our dead...

it will come out just how many are gone

because if yr 92 yr old friend is still missing in 3 weeks, and you know his house was underwater because it's in gentilly, where a lot of retired ppl live, you know it ain't because he decided to start over in tahiti

we will know

it will take a long time, maybe a yr or more to compile the data

but we WILL find out

we WILL know

only the freeps will be able to pretend that only a few hundred darker-hued ppl died

mark my words

this ain't over

the dead will be named & honored

it WILL happen, w or no w, fema or no fema

an alligator could dispose of an entire baby

i just can't get my mind around it, it is awful

but if nothing else we will find & remember the victims

30. history
is so quickly rewritten, by the "victors". I hope you and the others manage to get the name of every victim chiselled into rock, and make it a pilgrimage point for poeple to learn from. Perhaps a group should be set up to collect all the informatiom, and relevant physical objects, and make a Katrina Museum.

This disaster is not the first to be used for political ends, and it won't be the last, but it could be the pivot point of history, the one time when control can be wrenched from a group who could otherwise get into a completely unbeatable position.

24. I often wonder how they can predict that the toll will be much lower
than expected, when St. Bernard Parish is completely underwater.

I wonder how many people who did not evacuate were possibly drowned in there home, while sleeping.

Just my opinion, but I believe they think it's the best way to minimize the disaster, therefore, in their opinions, minimize their incompetence.

on edit: I believe the count is >10,000, perhaps shockingly so. The above is what I think they are thinking.
