I am noticing a huge shift in support for bu$h among those I talk to
With the exception of my pet republican, I have noticed that nearly everyone that I correspond with and talk to have turned on bu$h.
Just today I received anti bu$h messages from my Mother-in-law and the content was most unlike her.
Others I keep in contact with have used various names for the bu$h regime and none of them were complimentary.

On the other hand, I have a "pet republican" that I just keep pounding with facts and then laughing my ass off at his ridiculous praise for the bu$h regime. He always does the rovian technique when I email him damning facts about his beloved, of changing the subject to Clinton or Ted Kennedy or Teddie as he calls him. This guy is so far to the right he is off the chart.
The only reason I keep sending him email is to see how long it takes him to write his book length editorials. Never presents facts and always on talking points.

But the astonishing thing I am seeing is 8 of the 10 people that I correspond with mostly voted repuke last election, are now slamming bu$h.
Now if we can only keep the media on our side.

1. Ditto. I KNOW those new poll numbers are generous.
I hear NO ONE supporting Bush. Overheard conversations, long-time friends, family members, hard-core republicans I know...no one, not one of them, still is backing Bush. The polling coming out, at 42%, is ridiculously high. I'd bet he has a mid-twenties approval rating at best, and even that is being generous.

2. Will they support his impeachment?
If not, it's all rhetoric and we have three more years of this.

17. I think the more important question is
will they vote in 2006 and democratic? That's the real test.

13. I like this kind of post as well
The only way to kick the Repubs out is to keep our eye on the ball: Repubs are ruining this country!

We can criticize Dems if they are ever in the majority and have any power. Right now Dems have no power because they are in the minority and it's pointless to criticize someone whose vote doesn't matter anyway.

5. Some people are afraid to even tell a pollster they oppose Bush.
They see him as the Fascist Monster he is, and are afraid that they will wind up in hot water for disloyalty.

6. "Pet republican"...LOL. I have one of those, too.
Our email debates started in earnest during the 2004 primaries. I would send logical, sourced comments (IMHO, of course :-) ). She would respond with name-calling, lies and outrageous, illogical tirades.

Somehow we've managed to stay on relatively friendly terms; I think I'm curious to see if she'll go down with the ship.

8. Sure sounds familiar.
I have told him that he would support the regime regardless of how preposterous their actions. and he always comes back with Teddy and Clinton slams. It has entertained me for a year now.
Today he did throw out a few other Democrats even tried to tell me Kerry went to Vietnam just for photo-op purpose. He is so easy to shoot down with his fodder.

18. All I wanted to say about the Kerry comment
is why in the world would someone go to Vietnam for a photo-op? I mean, c'mon. Get real. If that was the case Bush would've gone as well but he was AWOL. And something else: isn't being AWOL illegal???

7. Katrina gives them the excuse they've been waiting for
There's the enormity of it, of course, but I think a lot of people who voted for him realized that he lied and has played them for fools, but they could not--and cannot-- bear admitting the truth that Iraq is war based on a lies and that it has lead to thousands and thousands innocents killed--not to mention our econmic insolvency. It's not easy to say you were wrong and played for a fool, especially when you have to accept some personal responsibility for what could be called international war crimes.

But this latest horror in NOLA is nuetral. It has nothing to do with right or wrong, good guys or bad. Bush said he would protect us, spent billions of dollars on a Department of Homeland Security, and failed. Not only did he fail, he may not have even tried--look at the people he brought in to do the job. Bush will never get these former loyalists back either, because they were waiting to leave him. Now that he's admitted "responsibility" they'll hate him even more because his "tough guy" pose is proved even more fake. In fact, his admission may burn those who are still in his camp, the cultists who like their leaders perfect.

12. My family
My family, who are lukewarm repugs at best (more libertarian than repuke), but were financial supports, have turned completely against the R's.

I actually heard my dad defending Nagin to a bunch of complete right wingers at a dinner last week -- and in the process making Bush look like the clueless fuckup that he is.

These neigbors -- the right of the right (wealthy, christian missionaries), were not even wholely behind *.

16. Very interesting
I wonder how my dad, his mom and his sisters are. We don't really talk politics much. My dad has said he liked Clinton though but I don't know if he voted for him any. I've gotten him to watch the "Daily Show" though so it's a start. My mother used to be a republican and earlier this year stated that she was no longer one and now she's so disgusted with Bush. Same with my grandmother and my grandfather before he died back in July.

20. Ditto -- I'm in Texas and
the ones who would stand and argue with me blaming Clinton for everything & that Bush is "having to deal with Clinton's leftovers" etc. now are eerily quiet...... some are admitting their mistake but most are just not commenting because they know they f'd up.... I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO -- want to yell it from the rooftops but have to try to slip it in politely ;)
