It's simple for him and his handlers--that makes it "go away" for his base.

I know how foolish that sounds to you, the general DU fan, possessed of intellect, the ability to think in broad scope, and a questioning mind, but it doesn't matter a bee's pee in the minds of the faithful.

W's taken "responsibility" means the shrubbery can move on to other parts of the PNAC/Heritage Foundation agenda while the faithful pretend that their great leader has come to the rescue of "those" unfortunate poor people. all is now right in their world.

He ain't gonna resign; it's not part of the agenda. If he does, all hell breaks loose and the handlers are exposed, people.

While we're paying attention to the man in front of the curtain, they are busy watching the man behind it and loudly crunching their popcorn.

4. You're incorrect about W having no one to bail him out.

He still has both houses of Congress on his side. Soon the Supreme Court will be completely pro-Bush as well.

He can keep fucking up as long as there's no one to hold him accountable. At this point, Congress is the only thing that can do it and there's no way his Republican cronies are gonna break rank and stand up to him.

So, as you said, buckle your seatbelt. We've still got three and a half years of this shit left to go.

5. I'm sure he is getting a lot of pressure

from prominent repugs who know there will be a reckoning one day on this issue @ the ballot box. The Bush agenda is the republican agenda. 'Compassionate conservatism' suffered a painful, drowning death in full view of the entire nation and the entire world.

I wonder if there will be some wrongful death or criminal negligence lawsuits related to the aftermath of Katrina. If that's the case, maybe because of his claim to "accept responsibility" he could be named as a defendant...
