I just heard on the news that * will soon issue "substantive
proposals for rebuilding New Orleans." I wonder what he means by that? Is he "Shifting strategies"?

17. Yep, I bet the Daily show will have a pic showing the NOLA contract and
it will be an official looking doc with the word Iraq crossed out everywhere and NOLA pencilled in.

3. Every rich person will be given a massive tax cut
with which they will hire lots of displaced New Orleaners, build factories for them to work in, offer them all health care, put them to work for Halliburton reconstructing the city.

Maybe he doesn't feel they've been "trickled down" upon enough the last two weeks.

5. Don't worry - when Dipshit tries to say it it'll come out as "substandard"
Which will be truer than anything else he says.

6. I really loved New Orleans such a wonderful culture, the people
the music, the food...fantastic city. Unique. I would really like to see it rebuilt the same way myself. Except without the structural poverty. I really hate those homogenized cardboard cut-out neighborhoods that those greedy developers put up everywhere, don't you?

12. CBS just had a report that Contractors are buying all the houses
Sight Unseen - supposedly for their employees which is jacking up the prices to unreachable amounts for NOers.

Sneaky way to get in, eh?

19. See, when you become an "evacuee" and you are given
"evacuee status" and IF you were lucky enough to have any property anywhere, do you get any money for your property? Do the "contractors" have to by the property from you? Now I know many people were not that fortunate but I keep thinking about an interview I saw with a black man, older fellow, said he had lived in his house 43 years there wasn't alot of damage in his area and he refused to leave. Now I know everyone is crying out about the health hazard and all but I kept thinking he's been there that long so his home is probably paid for (it was a modest home, but it was his) and if they forced him to leave which he said he would only go in a body bag would he get anything if he left? Any compensation for his property. I doubt he would be able to buy much in the way of a new home IF he did, but I kept thinking about him.

15. NOLA evacuees will get no part of the rebuilding
Disney will do the rebuilding under subcontract from Helliburton. They'll use all polyvinylchloride and polystyrene purchased from Exxon. Where they don't build high rise condos and gated communities they'll build exclusive, private golf clubs. They'll build a memorial to the NOLA flood where they will mournfully and prayerfully gather on the anniversary, but none of the previous residents will be allowed to resettle. The cultural diversity of the city will be replaced by a white-only, plasticized simulation with performers in the French Quarter in black face.
