Stripes letter: (Pat) Robertson ‘a real danger’
Robertson ‘a real danger’

The Rev. Pat Robertson is no better than any extremist mullah who calls for the assassination of Americans. Calling for assassination is calling for murder. What made it worse in his case is that he lied to his public, saying he did not say he called for Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s assassination. The same religious man who criticized and tried to crucify President Clinton for lying about his tête-à-tête, is now lying about trying to motivate someone to murder a president of another country. I am sure that within the hundreds of thousands of Christian Right extremists who follow this “reverend,” there will be many who would do his bidding.

I shudder to think that our American morality has reached such a low point that sending an assassination squad into a foreign country to “take out” that nation’s president is not only blessed but encouraged by one of the leaders of the Christian Right. Robertson is a real danger to the rest of us, in and outside of the U.S., who are not part of his Christian movement.

1. That's "Stars and Stripes", a military newspaper, for those
who don't know. I'm amazed some truth is surfacing!

9. His real name is Marion

And, as for his trashing of Bill Clinton:

HYPOCRISY CHECK When Marion Robertson ran for President in 1988 he too lied to the media and American people about sex. In Robertson's case his wife and son were directly involved in the lie. For years he lied to people about the date of his marriage. According to the Religious News Service of October 9, 1987, when he married, his wife was already seven months pregnant. I guess he did a lot more than just the "laying on of hands!"

And, for a man who supposedly 'walks with Jesus':

Robertson lives on the top of a Virginia mountain, in a huge mansion with a private airstrip. He owns the Ice Capades, a small hotel, diamond mines (in Zaire), a vitamin company (Kalo Vita) involved in a multi-level marketing scheme along the lines of Amway, and until recently, International Family Entertainment, parent company of the Family Channel (see below) -- all estimated to be worth between $150-200 million. How does a televangelist, who is supposedly involved in non-profit work, manage to create such a fortune for himself? One thing is known for sure, Robertson's numerous private business interests have at times pushed their expenses onto the tax-exempt, religious interests of CBN. For example, Robertson was caught using CBN money and equipment to aid his diamond mining operation -- a double good deal for Pat, seeing as he employed people in Zaire for ridiculously low wages, and managed to use CBN's infrastructure to cut costs even more. In looking at Robertson's businesses, one is struck by the constant use of non-profit, donor money to fund his schemes.

7. I wonder how Free Republic is reacting to this?

I wouldn't be surprised if those who are aware of it have entered a state of silent denial as to its validity.

I've been reading your sterling posts and enjoying them. Since you really have a feel for what is happening in the Stars and Stripes, what are your observations about where this misadministration sits with the military? Have you seen a shift of late? Does the military feel Bush* is losing traction like we do? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, and keep up the great work.

11. You bet the letters are being printed...
and I'm asking lebkuchen if the letters are being challenged. Are rebuttal LTTE being published? Are these letters encouraging other anti Bush* administration LTTE (most of lebkuchen's S&S posts pertain to the Bush* administration actions)? Has lebkuchen seen a noticeable shift or trend away from Bush*? Are these letters causing a buzz? Karenina, I did think about it for more then a minute and I thought I was asking valid questions, sorry.

12. Greetings. Just got on line.

No. The letters critical of Bush are not being challenged.

Letters that do get challenged are ones that say the Army is better than the Marines, or the Bible is better than scientific theory.

There have been letters critical of Doonesbury and Cindy Sheehan, and they have been met handily with a counter critiques. There are "anti-liberal" letters, written in a very immature bigoted tone, like the ones Jesse Jackson probably receives from America's racists on any given day.

When I get a chance, I will post the list of letters that are counter to the prevailing attitude that "the military is conservative." They will date back to sometime in 2003. I already have the list that dates to the last election. I just need to update it. There are so many letters to add.

I've read Stripes letters for 15 years. In the past, politics have generally not been seen in the letters section since military and families had preferred to keep personal political views to themselves in an effort to keep a low profile and promote one's career. Complaints about military life--enough child care and so forth-- have been common, as have topics on noisy children in the theater or complaints about kids not standing quietly for the National Anthem before the movie was about to start.

But Bush has changed all that. This high level of discontent with the Commander in Chief in the letters section of a newspaper catering to the military is unprecedented.

Track Stripes letters this week and see if anyone rebuts Wooldridge. I don't think any of his letters have ever been rebutted, and he's been writing off and on since before 2003.

14. Ya see, Sweetiekins
Last November there was talk about Yurp being the "swing" 52nd state. MILLIONS of expats registered. A data base was created and the votes were summarily discarded.

The military vote was squelched and NEVER reported! The NG folk particulary have long since smelled the stench. AFN pipes in Rush! That regular Army voices are being heard is HUGH! ;-)
