Datapoint: current federal flood insurance claims

As of today, 9/14/2005, FEMA's flood insurance website shows claims from July 2005.

http://www.fema.gov/nfip/loss200507.shtm (number of claims)
http://www.fema.gov/nfip/avg200507.shtm (average loss per claim)

So that means they report less than 45 days after the month of activity. If this holds, the September federal payout for Katrina claims will be posted on their website in mid-November.

So in mid-November, we'll find out in dollar terms how FRICKING SHORTSIGHTED it was for the federal government to provide flood insurance for New Orleans deed-holders and to not spend federal money shore up the levees.

No federal role? Check your wallet, Uncle Sam.

1. it ain't gonna work like that
this is not gonna be over w. in 45 days

they are not even gonna have an adjuster look at all the homes before 45 days

it was 12 days before i could even get thru the fast busy to get in line to get an adjuster

adjusters supposedly will come out in order of severity of damage

let's put it this way, my damage is sufficient to make my house uninhabitable & i don't even have an appt yet

there just aren't enough adjusters, contractors, etc. to handle something of this magnitude in timely fashion

the claims will not all be settled for months & more likely years

in mid-november we may have some idea but reconstruction will be nowhere near complete, claims are not completely settled and paid until you have proven you have rebuilt

you get it in pieces, some upfront to start, some when a certain % of the work is done, the rest only when you can prove the job is complete

mid-november

i wish
