Automated Message In Georgia Telling People To Vote Against Gay Marriage
Edited on Wed Sep-14-05 11:57 AM by InfoMinister
Today I recently received a recorded message from 1-800-394-2611 about voting against gay marriage. A woman started talking and saying she was a mother of three and that something had to be done to fight against gay marriage and asked the listener to talk to an operator. I just hung up. I'm looking up some info about this number right now and it's called United American Technologies.

From what I'm reading it appears to be a company that filters out pornography on their Internet service.

1. "I am a mother of three, and I care so much about banning gay marriage
that I have created a one-time recording, and am having a machine auto-dial and ask people to vote against it. See how passionate I am?"

:sarcasm:

2. I bet Ralph Reed is behind this. I really hate that man.
He's running for Lt. Gov. here. He is a total scumbag.

Can you post in the Georgia forum? Thanks.

Hate Speech On the Other Line

The New York Sun
BY JOHN P. AVLON
May 10, 2005

"Faith, Family and Freedom" - I'm in favor of them. And I'd sure be steamed if these American values were hijacked by some special interest in a crass attempt to profit from politics and people's fears. But, lo and behold, little is sacred in an era where the culture wars have graduated from grassroots skirmishes to organized armies. Not even your long-distance calling plan is safe in the ideological crossfire.

For example, a San Francisco-based company called "Working Assets" offers long-distance carrier service that donates a percentage of each customer's bill to groups such as Human Rights Watch, Planned Parenthood, and the ACLU. The company claims to have raised $47 million for these organizations over the past two decades. With so much activist cash available via unorthodox political outreach, it was only a matter of time until conservative organizations used the same strategy. That time has apparently arrived.

5. Here's Some Info From Air America
"How many People KNOW about the Great waste of YOUR Money, and everyone elses GOVERNMENT moneys to pay UAT (United American Technology) a Christian Based Long Distance Phone company, Calling us, asking Us to Help Fight Gay Marriage, "and Other things UN amrican" it is an 800 number, and they are gathering signatures to Present TO ( Publicly) Orin Hatch, asking him to Vote For an Ammendment to the Const. about Marriage, one man, one woman, ect.. The funny thing is, I did some Tracking on my own, and calling, and dermanding to know who they were Funded by for this, and Go Figure, It is Orin Hatches Office, that was paying them to make the calls, to gather the signature, to present (fanFare please) HIM!! why would he need to do that? and WHY is he not only Using His Office, but His funding (by the way if you act like your One Of Them, as they talk too u about it...They WILL and DO ask for a DONATION) they are bypassing the National Do Not Call List...which I am on, to do this! 800-394-2611 UAT is thier number. everytime u call an 800# THEY have to pay for You calling them. I suggest EVERYONE call and ask them WHY they are doing this, and WHO thier funding comes from...They LOVE to hang up on you after you ask THAT question. If you ccall in ON a Weekday, you will get asked,"did you just get a call?...simply say Yes, very Nicely, and you will hear the next person explaining How BLESSED we are, and how BAD everyone erlse is, and how YOU can help bring this country Back to being a CHRISTIAN nation, and FREE of not onnly Gays, but a LONG LIST of ppl..Its amazing, IF You can sit and listen long enough, without just getting sick, and having to speak your mind, they GIVE you ALOT of information, that YOU can use AGAINST them, in the end.
Good Luck! wow, Glad I got this Tagline thing figured out!

Love Ya Laura F.!!
God Bless THE WORLD!"

7. Well, auto-dialers weren't too efficient in 1950
It took a few decades for those calls to get out.

BTW, did you get that one about supporting Governor Wallace in Alabama?

Here is a blurb about the article from a blog:
the company describes itself as “the only carrier that is taking an active stand against same sex marriages and hardcore child pornography".
-
With 2000 customers reportedly switching to United American Technologies each month, Christian-based lying and phone homophobia is a lucrative business. But they’re not just in it for the money. A cut of the proceeds helps fund conservative political campaigns, via a 527 called “Faith Family and Freedom” created by the Republican floor leader of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

*******

United American Technologies
United American Technologies is an Oklahoma-based telephone service and Internet Service Provider which has become the center of a controversy concerning its telemarketing techniques, which include anti-gay polemics.

The telemarketing campaign, originally run by a nonprofit organization called "Faith, Family and Freedom" would begin its pitch by asking the callee if they were opposed to same sex marriage. If the callee responded positively, they were then transferred to a United American Technologies representative who would explain to them how the more common telephone service providers, such as AT&T, MCI and Verizon were supporters of gay marriage and child pornography, and that United American Technologies is "the only carrier that is taking an active stand against same sex marriages and hardcore child pornography".
