Would Joe Wilson make a good Sec. of State?

I am curious if people would be in favor of Joe Wilson being nominated for Secretary of State in a Democratic administration. He has been a career diplomat in both Repiblican and Democratic administrations. He was also willing to go up against this administration, which would go a long way in restoring our relationships with our allies, especially the ones that objected to the war. I think that he would also be respected in the Middle East as an honest broker, especially since he doesn't have a military/defense/oil background.

Just imagine! From what I hear and read about Wilson he is qualified to be SOS.

2. He is certainly well informed and a dedicated, patriotic

American! He can hold his own too! I am very impressed with him over this "outing" issue. I understand he was a hero in the first Gulf War; as he secured the release of 180 American hostages and was the last diplomat to ever meet with Saddam.

He is well traveled and respected in Europe and obviously Africa.

3. Whether he's qualified or not

It's hard to see how any Democratic president could spin this away from "We feel the need to humiliate the Democrats." It would be like President Bush nominating Kenneth Star to a high position.

I don't favor a wussy style of politics where we back down all the time, but we do need to pick our battles so that we can win the significant victories we have to win for the American people.

Cable Tv stars are not respected abroad. Diplomacy is not Air force ONE or the Daily show or SNL. There really is reality and it sometimes has an unhappy ending. However we keep on keeping on because thats the way it is.

What are you talking about? Wilson is a career diplomat, and the only reason he has been on all of the cable news shows is because of the outing of his wife.

replayed his 8/8/03 LA address. The man is sincere, thoughtful, insightful and appears level headed. He laid out the history of his Niger mission, discussed Rice lying about 'no one in her circle' knew about it. (He said since the Niger request came from unca dick's office - is unca dick not in rice's circle or is rice not in unca dick's?) I was very impressed w/ his easy manner.

He's become prominent not because of his accomplishments, laudable though those have been; he's 'front and center' because of his wife's outing by Novakula, essentially.

I'm glad he's on the attack, but this man is NOT SOS material.

Wilson is the only person to come out of the war situation looking good. He's a true patriot, and while not quite in the same class as Daniel Elsbergh, he's pretty close.

The award he won from GHWB in re: his performance
in Iraq prior to the First Gulf War, where he told
Saddam "if you're going to execute me, I'll bring
my own rope". The guy has some kind of guts
(going it alone when all the pink tutus were
hiding behind their patriotism).

And two, the fluidity, grace, and ease with which
he handled Porcine Boy Russert this morning. It was
a thing of beauty.

All of that said, I have dreamed of either Bill
Clinton or Al Gore in the SOS job in the new Dem
administration.

I asked Edwards if he would consider him as secretary of State at one of his townhalls(after I read "future of Freedom") and he said "definetely" right away. We didn't discuss it too much but he said that he's learned alot from things Fareed has written and edited and he said that having a Muslim as our face to the world would be something very positive in these times

what he is made of. He is classy, eloquent, intelligent and diplomatic. He is also fearless and noble. I think he'd be brilliant at whatever he did.

I think he is a great American.
