CNN report on Long Beach, MS (100 bodies; barbed wire going up)
CNN's reporter just said that a 4 mile barbed-wire fence is being put up to surround the whole town--ostensibly to keep out looters, but actually, he said, because there are around 100 bodies in the rubble.

10. Story from last week on barbed wire going up
story here on razor wire going up surrounding areas of S. Miss. from last week: http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/news/special_packages/hurricane_katrina/12606118.htm
When Lynn Bauer drove along Railroad Avenue in Long Beach on Friday morning, she was shocked to see a fence crew based out of Lumberton laying the wire.

"My first thought was that it's meant to keep us out," Bauer said.

And yet a story appeared yesterday stating that the death toll in Miss. had reached 218 and was unlikely to "spike" from there.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050913/ap_on_re_us/katrina_mississippi_4

Of course, there are countless anecdotal stories of thousands dead in Mississippi alone:

http://www.moberlymonitor.com/articles/2005/09/06/news/news1.txt
Davis said Gator has been busy rescuing as many people as he can; when she spoke to him last, he had taken over 50 people into his home to give them food and shelter. He has pulled almost that many dead bodies out of the water and taken them to I-90, where he told Davis there were about 800 corpses lined up along the road for rescue workers to retrieve.

http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7000069092
But those numbers are considered low by law enforcement and medical rescue squads. One law enforcement officer estimates it is more likely to be between 600 and 800 Bay St.Louis alone. The residents are “in for a shock,” he tells the Washington Post.

http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/news/nation/12575557.htm
With the search-team's tales of horrendous findings and the official death toll not matching up, rumors in this disconnected part of the world seem to be spiraling out of control.

A Florida EMA official, brought in to handle media in Hancock, told the Sun Herald the county would not release "any more numbers" until the coroners complete their collecting process.

Several armed guards stand near the front gate of the old Alcan Cable site in Bay St. Louis, where five, 53-foot, refrigerated tractor-trailers sit behind a chain-linked fence.

a dear friend (who is a doc in Biloxi/Gulf Port)finally called me to let me know that he was alive, said that they had found (I believe it was this morning)a shelter about 1/4 from the beach that housed 800. All 800 were found to have drown. Sad, Sad, Sad. I was relieved to hear his voice, but feel bad for what he has seen. He happened to be in the ER when the hurricane hit. All at the hospital were saved,PTL. He did, however, loose his home and all earthly possessions. He said the AFB is obliterated.

The death toll in Miss is in the thousands. I have now spoken to at-least 4 people who have worked down there during recovery. If you did the math between the 4 of them you would be over 1,500 alone as far as tagging bodies is concerned.

My wife works part-time for an answering company. One of their clients is a funeral home up here in Upstate New York has a couple of its employees down in Biloxi as volunteers. Anyways, one of the employees called in from Biloxi - via the answering service - to let their employer know of their status. She said that they were "processing 300+ bodies per day" in Biloxi alone...

12. isn't it too risky to cover-up?
I have corresponded by email with folks who have friends that have been working in the Mississippi coast for the last 2 weeks. From day 1 these EM workers have been reporting thousands of bodies being collected. Similar stories have appeared in local news (but not, it seems, MSM news). For example:

http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7000069092
"We have painted numbers on homes with dead bodies in them that would go past the current state total. The number is so far from accurate it would leave many to wonder at the end of the day, just how many people did Katrina kill here?"

The paramedic, citing HIPPA laws, asked to remain nameless. He says, " I had worked the first three days after the storm and found bodies everywhere. I walked most of Hancock County and we were finding families in closets who had drowned from the storm. We were finding people in trees who must have been trying to swim in the surge. Bodies have been everywhere."

Remember, the above is just ONE account. ONE paramedic team can only cover a small area. This storm destroyed everything for 100 miles along the Miss. coast. Are they SERIOUSLY trying to say that the storm totally destroyed +60,000 homes and other buildings but only killed 218 in Mississippi? It sounds impossible to me and all the stories and accounts appear to bear out that there was indeed a massive death toll. If this is a cover-up how long can it continue? Surely not much longer. Surely it's far too risky to try covering this up? That part makes me believe that maybe all the stories are, in fact, mistaken or exaggerated.

13. Yes and supposedly hard to do
will share the details again...

The Medic said we have found full families in closets.. ok lets play a game shall we?

I am the Feds... I am compiling a list of the missing, nobody reports them... they all died.. and have no relatives out of area... guess what? They never existed, so slowly you chip away at the official death toll.

This trick is so old that it is not even funny

Trick number two, for health reasons, as much as they are saying that they will identify each body and turn them over to families, they will have to do the mass grave dance, and at that point you take a zero out of the number of bodies you are putting in.

I used to be a medic in a developing world country and when governments fuck up in this monumental way, they truly hope to hide the reality from the people, and the bushies are not above them tricks.

There is a third common trick, which they apparently have chosen not to use... deaths that can be unlinked from the disaster, it was a heart attack you see, not the storm, are declared that way... again reduces your numbers

Now keep your notes with that EMS personnel, and make sure they are willing to go onto the spotlight, only way to stop the ghouls is to shine some light. I have let media and congress critter into these little secrets, but we also need first hand accounts.

14. OK, that could explain some of it
I agree that those still in closets 2 weeks later and not yet collected wouldn't be reported missing. However, what about the hundreds of bodies already purportedly collected and taken away to the morgues in the refrigerated trucks?

Surely local officials wouldn't help to cover this up? It's the FEDs who want to cover it up. The locals got their homes destroyed and there are probably local coroners who have family who died. Why would they cover it up?

If this thing is as big as being reported in these anecdotal accounts and non-MSM reports this cannot be kept covered up. And when it's uncovered people will go to jail for attempting a cover-up.

Look at this one:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1480391/posts?q=1&&page=101#114

This account seems credible. I don't beleive the poster made this up. Did the poster mishear what he/she was told? Was it 8 dead, not 800? Did the doctor who related it simply exaggerate? One would have to find out exactly where this shelter was.

The story seems credible to me. Perhaps the shelter was a sturdy building that surrvived Camille and was thought to be hurricane proof. Thus it was designated as a shelter. But the storm sturge was extraordinary, beyond anyhting imagined, and the whole shelter was flooded with 25 feet of water. Everybody was trapped inside with no escape. Did this really happen or did it not? If it did happen and is being covered up, do we live in the former Soviet Union?

18. I don't buy into that....we are not a third world county
ok...we used to not be a third world country. But they will have to have docs sign off on cause of deaths, funeral directors, nurses...so on and so on...I just don't see the reasoning behind hiding the numbers. They will come out.

15. There has to be thousands dead in MS. Most stayed, and all that's left is
rubble.

I remember reading that only about 30% evacuated the MS coast (NO was supposed to get the worst of the storm). In some areas, there is nothing left but rubble. Where else would all the people be except buried underneath? Sure, some found a way to hang on and survive, but many, if not most, did not.

16. How can they say no expected spike?
How can they say this with a straight face? Yesterday they say maybe a few more bodies will be found. Today they have an entire town surrounded by razor wire. Am I missing something here?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050913/ap_on_re_us/katrina_mississippi_4
Body Recovery Nears End in Mississippi
The death count in Mississippi was raised Monday to 218, up four from the weekend, and emergency officials said they did not expect a big spike in the number.

"Once we start the debris removal, we'll probably see some additional bodies," Spraggins said. "How many, I don't know. I hope just a few."

I have seen FR posts here on DU that were not presented in a negative light. Who knows, some common ground here? We could work with the "other side"...?
