As a whole, I suppose the Iraqi people are frustrated at this point. It may be necessary for the Iraqi prime minister to threaten Syria and promise that Iraq will attack and destroy Syria if they don't stop this overt attempt to upset Iraq. Syria has much to answer for and I for one American wish that our first cooperative action with our new ally, Iraq will be to overrun and occupy Syria. Then we can introduce democracy there. Syria is also interferring in the Lebanese government and has much to answer for on that front. Let's step on this worm.

People forget that Iran and Syria are a united front against Iraq on both their left and right flanks.

It will be the final battle for Al Qaeda in Iraq, but NOT the final battle in the WoT.
Joanne, I think right now the State Department is running the campaign against Syria. They got Syria out of Lebanon, which was a good first step, but I don't think any amount of diplomatic pressure will remove the Batth Party from Power in Syria. That will require Military force, which PRESIDENT Bush is reluctant to use at this point in time.
If it ia at all possible to use soft power to remove the Batth party, 'old europe' will have to take the lead there. If Turkey joins the EU, it will allow the pressure on Syria to ditch the Batth party to be increased exponentally. I've heard rumors that State is looking to get involved as a mediator between Turkey and the EU. I think that would be a huge mistake, but then again My Dad was the diplo, I never had the slightest interest.
Regardless of the approach, it will take time to do regime change in Syria. The More time spent on indirect approaches (ie: non-military) the less casualties. It all depends on PRESIDENT Bush taking the heat here in the states.
That is why the MSM is attacking him 24/7. If he can be pushed into cutting and running, then the Terrorists and their allies in the MSM will have the major victory they need to keep hope alive.
Notice how tyrants always start talking of 'final battles' when their back is against the wall?

I am saying only that it could be a good thing for American jurisprudence to be informed by the principles of Sharia.
Fuck you.
Instead of fighting the rest of the world, why can the United States not reach out the hand of peace to its enemies?
Because it keeps stabbing us in the back after we hand them something?
God, I HATE peaceniks. Bury your head in the sand and hope they fuck you last. Do we have St Cindy in the flesh here, or what?
