Are there no non-white people in North Carolina? Will the poor be able to get to the shelters?

1. The Wilmington/Topsail area is very monied

There are mostly well-to-do white people there, to a large degree.

There are no black people in North Carolina. Geesh, why is it so hard to believe that some parts of this country is still ,to a degree, segregated we all saw that when Katrina hit Louisiana. That part of North Carolina is mostly white.

3. When we vacation at Hatteras, it is only recently that we

have started seeing some mix - white, black, hispanics, indian, russian, polish - and we've been going there 10 years now. True, there's alot of beach and not alot of people, but hubby and I have both mentioned it. Just seemed VERY odd from someone who comes from up north from a college town where we normally have a huge mix of people.

I figure the mix will continue since the reason that alot of them are down there is that the businesses have been bringing them in to work. Most kids with cars, etc. want to work at the beach in the summer, but not one where bars and nightlife are limited and a ride from Hatteras village to the action is over 45 minutes on land or a ferry ride to another island. Businesses pay their room/board and a small wage and they're set for the summer.
